Dow Predictions for 1/22/08! (semi contest)

I originally thought it would be down by 650, now looking at the asian markets down ANOTHER 5-8% overnight, this is my prediction:

Dow ends down 972 (just over 8%)  to 11127.

Closest guess gets a pat on the back, predictions before market open will be considered.  I think that the dow should go down over 1k but the market controls will kick in to prevent that, I think tomorrow we will see curbs.  Also, I think the Dow will be least affected, the nasdaq and s&p are going to go down at least 9%... so I wanna hear what the caps community thinks.  Have at it!

Fed Cuts Rate 0.75 Percentage Point in Emergency Move (Update2)

By Scott Lanman

Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve lowered its benchmark interest rate in an emergency move for the first time since 2001 after tumbling global stock markets and a jump in U.S. unemployment threatened to push the economy into recession.

The central bank lowered the benchmark overnight lending rate to 3.5 percent from 4.25 percent, the Federal Open Market Committee said in a statement in Washington. Policy makers weren't scheduled to gather on rates until Jan. 29-30.

cami,

First, all you guessed was up, not how much. Second, it's no fair making your guess after the Fed panics and slashes rates. When it happened, I thought, "yeah, that makes sense."

I still wish Ben would have let the market tank. I'm sitting on cash and I want some bargains!
