Dr. Rand Paul that is...

One of my readers thongpatrol wrote:

what makes RAnd a qualified politician?  daddy's legacy?  probably not.  don't know much about him or how he will create jobs for kentuckians.  when it is all said and done, he will be like the other carbon blobs who troll the halls in the capitol.  catering to corporate interests.  sorry dude.

Mary953 already gave a pretty good rebuttle here in comment #13.

But nevertheless, let's let the good doctor speak for himself.

I would suggest that anyone who has concerns about any politician do research on them. Few people are  more cynical than I am (especially about gov't and politicians), and when I come out in support of one you better believe I did my homework.

Update: $1,072,902 RAISED!

Not a penny from special interests. The majority in donations less than $100. A mini-money-bomb is taking place now. The goal is...

$1,112,000 by Sep 30th

That's not much I know, but it will be a full $1 Million dollars raised in a single quarter. Not bad for a guy with less than $200,000 last quarter.

If you agree with my ideas, Dr. Ron Paul's ideas, the principles of small gov't and lower taxes, then you will like his son Rand.

Every dollar helps. If you feel like donating, you can do so here.

For Freedom, For Liberty,

Dare

P.S. Stay tuned for my next blog "Cash 4 Clustersuck" where I give an inside look at working in a gov't contract, and how giving money away is harmful public policy.

New Job???  Congratulations are in order!  This is a tough market for everyone, and I am glad to hear you have found a spot.  Hope it is one you enjoy and I will be waiting to hear more soon.

As to the assumptions about Dr. Paul, they were easy conclusions to draw and I had no knowledge of him other than the information in your blog.  I also had a suspicion that he would not accept special interest money if he could manage to run his campaign without it.

Best of luck to him and to Kentucky.  It is a great joy to be represented by a legislator you can be proud of at any level - the higher the better.

Mary953,

Thanks! I'm not sure I am proud of my new job, but a job is a job and paycheck is nothing to sneeze at in these times. Just trying to make some money before I once again move on. This will be my 4 job in a year....this one pays more and I plan on keeping it a little longer. Might even be able to put some money in the market!

I don't think Mary953 answered my questions.  Zero experience kissing other peoples asses for one.  Second, most physicians are not the political type.  brains has nothing to do with results in DC.  if he wins, he is a freshman senator on a crap committees that does nothing for kentuckians.  where was he 5 years ago?  i think he would better serve his country by helping others who can't help themselves (quote from spiderman).  i can think of 100 smart people who have better chances as politicians.  i also think doctors make lousy politicians.  wasn't flecter a doctor?  bottom of the barrel as a politician from what i can tell.  other than money, who does he have supporting him political that doesn't have the last name Paul?  is McConnell or Bunning supporting him?

Remember Perot?  lots of money and brains.  crappy wanna be politician

I assume you are talking about Dr/Sen Bill Frist from our state, thongpatrol.  I voted for him (twice) because the first time he was opposing a senator whose early campaign ads bragged about the influence he had in Washington.  That senator had enough influence to sway the votes needed to help carry a large tax increase for the country. (Clinton's words, not mine - we heard that a lot early in the campaign.)  If the influence being wielded is directly opposed to what the people want, you lose - as Sasser found out.  Clinton even stopped campaigning for him because it was costing him so many votes.  The real election that year was in the Rep primary to see which person would get a "shot" at the seat.  The second vote was because I was proud of the way he was representing us and proud of the job he was doing.

Frist didn't seem to have a lot of difficulty in the "impact"  department.  He was there two terms, was voted Majority Leader, and then returned to Tennessee - as he promised.  He did not want to be a politician, just couldn't stand watching his elected representative vote the way he did without trying to offer an alternative.  At the risk of being "political" which I try not to do (losing battle and all that) - I am very proud that Dr. Frist left his profession as a heart/lung surgeon and took on issues on the national arena, and very proud he represented my state!

As to your question, I know absolutely nothing about Dr Paul.  All of my comments were generalized to the information in the article.  Prior to that I did not know he existed.  You did not sound as though you had more information than I did.  I answered in kind.

"What would cause me to look at him as a candidate?"  (I know, I rephrased your comment).  Those were the factors that would cause me to take a look.  That assumes that I lived in Kentucky and was going to vote in that election.  Examining your candidates is something of a national need and duty, especially if you want to have an informed opinion.

I do not have information on Dr. Paul.  I do, as I pointed out, respect Dare's opinions and also his willingness to do his "homework" before he takes a public stand like this.

I wish us all the very best possible representation at all levels of government.  We certainly need men and women of good conscience, good character, and great intelligence to help guide this country.  We always have.

thanks for the info on Frist.  he maybe the only one in recent memory but i can't think of anyone with a "Dr" title doing well as a politician.  hard for them to relate to the common carbon blob for the most part.  i know plenty of doctors and professors who ALWAYS talk or appear to talk more intelligently than your average IQ voter.  to sum it up, i'm not convinced Rand is the savior of our country.  he will need votes and money which will bring in the special interests knocking at his door.  politics isn't what it used to be.  you almost are required to have corporate sponsorship in order to have any power.  politics one oh dumb.   i'm sure the health care industry is licking their chops if Rand wins.  capitalism breads this behavior.  right or wrong, i don't know.
