From the Associated Press:

"Jordan Richardson, who waited outside the Chicago store since 7 a.m. Wednesday, sold his spot early Thursday for $500, then paid another customer $200 to get back in line. He wound up netting $300 -- just enough to cover the cost of the phone."

Madness. Just madness.

That said, my birthday's in a few weeks, and my wife asked me whether I wanted the new iPhone. My first reaction is to wait until Christmas, since 1) any bugs might be worked out by then, and 2) maybe, just maybe, AT&T won't be the only carrier by then.

What do you think? Or, for those of you using other smartphones, should we iPhone customers broaden our horizons to something better?

I'm thinking I must be the only person in the US that likes AT&T's service and completely loathes Verizon and T-Mobile. I see nothing wrong with AT&T being the sole provider in the meantime.

I'm 90% sure I'm going to buy the Evo within the next few weeks, assuming I can get out of my AT&T contract (it expires sometime in August, I believe). Stories like this make me feel better about the decision, too. I'd rather escape the iPhone entirely and cut all association from guys like this.

I was going to get the HTC Evo this week since I knew there'd be absolute madness associated with trying to land a new Iphone.  It's almost just a ridiculous to get an Evo, though.  The waiting list is like 3-4 weeks.

Nothing to do with Iphone or Evo, but as an aside, I remember back during the "oil boom" many years ago (30 or so), there were companies so desperate to get drilling rigs, they paid as much as $1,000,000 to purchase a place in line.

This turned out to be a very bad decision; both from the stand point of extravagant waste, and owning a rig that became almost worthless.

Anyone remember Penn Square Bank?

Have a great day.

If we could just figure out a way to securitize Apple Iphone line spaces and sell them to pensions we'd be billionaires.

Oooh..and then short them!

I keep wondering if all this hoopla means Apple top or what? I have an ipod touch and I'll probably buy ipad eventually. But I simply don't understand this madness. And it is even worse abroad. In Russia now not only you  need a Mercedes,a Rolex watch but also a full array of latest Apple products to be taken seriously.
