E-Trade Hooks Up With Lindsay Lohan

March 09, 2010 – Comments (13)

It's been a rough couple years for both E-Trade and Lindsay Lohan. But at least they now have each other.

Lohan has sued E-Trade for $100 million because she asserts that the E-Trade Baby's milkaholic girlfriend-on-the-side, who is also named Lindsay, is based on her.

Judge for yourself before we continue:

When I saw the ad during the Super Bowl I didn't make the connection. I just thought Lindsay was used because it's a common girl name. Lohan's lawyer, though, asserts that Lindsay has reached one-name status, like Madonna and Oprah.

Now, Lindsay is certainly a more common name than Madonna or Oprah. According to, Lindsay is the 302nd most common female name in the U.S., about 73,500 strong. Madonna is only the name of about 7,350 females (I suspect that number is inflated due to folks naming their kids after her). The name Oprah is "very rare."

That said, the "milkaholic" reference may add specificity. I think the site Dealbreaker said it best:

"On the one hand, sounds like someone’s being a little paranoid. On the other? Yeah, it’s definitely supposed to be her. And she does need the money."

- Anand Chokkavelu (TMFBomb) notes that the names Anand and Chokkavelu are also "very rare." You can follow him on Twitter.

I hope E-Trade defends this vigorously and refuses to settle. I bet they will prevail in court.

Don't forget to add the Lindsey's of this world too, that should add another 10K to the count... I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised how few Lindsay/Lindsey's there are, seemed more common than #302.

This lawsuit is frivolous and I hope she loses.  Lindsay Lohan gets bigger stabs at her name by the likes of Family Guy, South Park, and Robot Chicken, yet I dont see any of their names on the docket.  Please...

What a stupid dwiddle. I think the commercial is a panic, and I didn't connect the milkaholic's name Lindsay until I heard about this frivolous lawsuit. It's like the MacDonald corporation suing the young lady trying to help the unfortunate. Lindsay, go stick your swollen head and ego in the sand and don't come out.... ever.

No wonder you didn't make the connection. Why would Lohan be hanging out with a 'guy' on a computer. Or the corollary, why would a 'guy' hang out on the computer if he had Lohan around.

When I saw this I didn't make the connection between the name of the baby in the commercial and Lindsey Lohan. She has definitely not reached one name status like Oprah or Madonna. As has been noted, Lindsey is a much more common name. She also isn't really that famous.

Basically it sounds like Lindsey Lohan is admitting that her public persona is that of a clueless drunk.  Somewhat self-defeating to begin with. Maybe E-Trade can just settle and give her move booze money.

Shes attempting to get free publicity. Keeping her name in the spotlight. I didn't make any connection with her either. Shes just playing it for all she can get! I wish she would go away!

Sad, when child stars turn to antics such as this to keep their names in the paper.  If you see this person in a restaurant please give her a dollar and say "I am sorry things have gone so wrong in your life".  Here is a dollar, maybe another person will come by and give you a second dollar and you can purchase one share of ETFC.

I, for one, hope Lindsay wins this lawsuit. Addiction is not a laughing matter. If you want to feel superior to celebrities, just ignore them. Kicking them when they're down is cowardly. Honestly, though, I really hate those e*trade commercials and anything that puts a stop to them is good with me.
