Fellow Fool Ilan Moscovitz and I have noticed that the majority of experts on CNBC have namesake titles. For example, Joe Smith from Joe Smith Capital Management, or Larry Franklin from Larry Franklin Partners, or Peter Jay Jones from PJJ and Associates.

We've come to the conclusion that at least 3/4 of CNBC guests are self-employed, unemployed and making up titles, or just random people they pulled in off the street.

Your name isn't a job title. It's just your name. Narcissism lives.

Let's try this: when you see a namesake expert on CNBC, post a comment to this thread so we can collect all the crazy advice and opinions we are supposed to believe on the basis of teriffically vague authority.

Hey guys, I've noticed this trend, too. As I am reading this blog, we have on CNBC one Barry James, President & PM of "James Advantage Funds" ($2B in AUM; main fund: Balanced Global Rainbow--GLRBX). Pretty hilarious stuff.

On the other hand, his fund has crushed the S&P during the lost decade of '99/'00-present.

Cheers,

Scott F.
