A 20-year-old college student who was hired as police chief of a Mexican border town has reportedly sought asylum in the United States.

 

 

Word of Valles Garcia's apparent departure comes after Erika Gandara, a female officer and the sole representative of the law in the border town of Guadalupe, was kidnapped in December . Her fate is unknown.

I'm amusing that most of my fellow MF members already know what a sewer of a country Mexico and how  hundreds of thousands have died in the crazy drug wars down in Mexico.

But wow the only candidate for police chief was a 20 year old mother who was studying criminology.

So the next time you hear any idiots from  way down south bad mouthing US policies just remember what a  s**t hole of a country they are from and how ironic the difference between Mexico's and US's policies for immigration.

My advice to that young woman would be to run run run as far away as you can from Mexico perhaps ending at Canada or the north pole just in case she is a member of the caps community.

Uh, ok.

I used to go down to Mexican border towns in the mid 90's quite a bit. It was a really nice place.  

Then in 2008 I was in Arizona for a while and we took a day trip to Nogales. It was like the 7th circle of Hell.

Hmmmm... I wonder what happened.

Mexico happened,  darn shame, funny how all the media doesn't report ever since them drug lords started killing reporters who dare report anything but positive stories about drug cartels that are pre  drafted and ok'd by them.

Mexico i'm told is a beautiful country except for all the killings, crimes, and internal bs and bad governance.

Dave as bad as we may think we have it here, at least we don't have gov jobs in which no qualified males or sane persons refuse to fill because of the likes of atrocities going on in Mexico.  Just prior to her taking police chief position that towns mayor and his son were killed.

She didn't even try to arrest or stop any criminals, her platform was to simply observe and seek to minimize the killings, more a desk job to simply file reports and yet she's smartly had enough and is ready to run for the border.

I wonder who they'll try to get next ? the town drunk ? or will they put an ad on craigslist ?  are you unemployed ?  we have an excellent career opportunity for you here, if you would just relocate to our bright and sunny town.

The seventh circle houses the violent. Its entry is guarded by the Minotaur, and it is divided into three rings:

Middle ring: In this ring are the suicides (the violent against self), who are transformed into gnarled thorny bushes and trees, which are fed on by the Harpies. Unique among the dead, the suicides will not be bodily resurrected after the final judgement, having given their bodies away through suicide. Instead they will maintain their bushy form, with their own corpses hanging from the limbs. Dante breaks a twig off one of the bushes and from the broken, bleeding, branch hears the tale of Pier delle Vigne, who committed suicide after falling out of favour with Emperor Frederick II (his presence here, rather than in the ninth circle, indicates that Dante believes that the accusations made against him were false[30]). Also here are Lano da Siena and Jacopo da Sant' Andrea. The trees are a metaphor for the state of mind in which suicide is committed.[31] The other residents of this ring are the profligates, who destroyed their lives by destroying the means by which life is sustained (i.e. money and property). They are perpetually chased by ferocious dogs through the thorny undergrowth (Canto XIII).

Inner ring: Here the violent against God (blasphemers) and the violent against nature (sodomites and, as explained in the sixth circle, usurers) all reside in a desert of flaming sand with fiery flakes raining from the sky (a similar fate to Sodom and Gomorrah). The blasphemers lie on the sand, the usurers sit, and the sodomites wander about in groups. Dante sees the classical warrior Capaneus there, who for blasphemy against Zeus was struck down with a thunderbolt during the Siege of Thebes. Dante converses with two Florentine sodomites from different groups. One of them is Dante's mentor, Brunetto Latini. Dante is very surprised and touched by this encounter and shows Brunetto great respect for what he has taught him ("you taught me how man makes himself eternal; / and while I live, my gratitude for that / must always be apparent in my words"[32]), thus refuting suggestions that Dante only placed his enemies in Hell.[33] The other sodomite is Iacopo Rusticucci, a politician, who blames his wife for his fate.  But what does that have to do with the reality of the world?  Decriminalization of drugs and reducing demand in the US could make a difference for Mexico, but probably not solve their problems.  Somehow the drug lords need to be stopped - but they have achieved power equivalent to the mob bosses of Chicago.  It is even possible that the President of Mexico is connected to the drug lords (say some rumors).  What do you do about that?

 The funny thing about all this - is even though Mexico's drug trade is killing the country (with 30000 deaths in the last several years) - and corruption is rampant, their economy is still rapidly growing and looking more positive.  That's just weird to me.  I don't know if at some point the economic health and social sickness will collide.

It's sad that all this violence and bloodshed in Mexico is coming north--into the United States, with border agents being killed and farmers in border cities (like in Texas) being forced off their farms by drug cartels.

Everyone deserves the opportunity, the so called war on drugs has been a joke that has resulted in many casualties  like Dave says they have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

Ironically I heard from Ron Paul that hemp would and could be used instead of corn to produce products like Ethanol,  yet because of the label  ~ we aren't utilizing hemp instead of corn to produce ethanol  not that I'm for or against ethanol made by hemp, but if it were to reduce our costs and stop us from wasting food products towards our food tanks, why not ? than again some 420 smokers might worry about not being able to get their smokes on.

Only because the previous richest man in the world decided to give away much of his fortune to combat smoking, disease, and other philanthropic ideas.
