Finding NEMO...a JOB...in Michigan

It's difficult enough to find NEMO, only to then have to find NEMO a Job after he's found in the state of Michigan.  Fortunately, as seen it today's jobless claims filing, jobs ARE becoming slightly more plentiful in the Good Ole U S of A's Midwestern States.

1) Chrysler's out of bankruptcy and GM will be soon...FORD is increasing production.

2) BASH Michigan's movie industry all you want (which is based entirely off of sustaining a $100 million annual subsidy), but the fact is that when these Celebrities like George Clooney (recently was seen filming a movie across the street from Tiger's baseball park) fly over here they have to sleep somewhere... Where? In a 5 star HOTEL of course...Or at least a 4 Star.... We have plenty of well established 4 and 5 star Hotels.

Mariott...Sheraton....and plenty of Hotel companys have their presence here.  So there are jobs, jobs, jobs in the HOTEL industry in Michigan.....  A positive side effect of the movie industry that goes unreported and unnoticed.

So....NEMO needs a job?  Go grab George Clooney's Bags.

Only job is being assistant coney dog maker or loose meat preparer. If your lucky the casinos will hire you.

and the net jobs loss is much greater than the gain. Chrysler and GM have closed many plants.Also plants of related auto/raw material companies have laid off. US steel's Great Lakes Works is closed.So now what GM will one 1 plant ? OH GOODY

2) BASH Michigan's movie industry all you want

Drop in the bucket for the area. Also Hollywood is fickle.Michigan is great if you doing midwest themes or you are shooting nature in the UP otherwise not so much. Hollywood loves LA, NYC and Toronto and only Toronto because it looks like NYC.

Let me add I feel for the people in Michigan and detroit. We should have an industry for skilled workers in the area and a huge tax break for businesses.

The higher taxes paid by the people and businesses of Michigan to subsidize the movie industry causes more job losses than the meager benefits of having a star in Michigan for a couple days a year.

What Michigan needs is a return to the sensible policies of John Engler, who cut taxes, and reduced idiotic regulations & spending.

As much as I liked John Engler, I have to agree with cthomas1017.... at least in terms of his last term in office.  We went from an expected surplus to a deficit because no plan was in place to cut spending in accordance with the expected economic decline / Government revenue decline.

Electing Jennifer Granholm was the worst mistake Michigan made in my life time.  A targeted tax cut to help businesses and to generate jobs was eliminated by Governor Granholm immediately after winning election.
