This high-flying video of the first 3D-printed plane swoops in at number seven in our countdown.

In this world first, a 3D-printed plane created by blasting lasers at plastic dust successfully completes its maiden flight. Jim Scanlan of the University of Southampton and his team designed and built the plane in one week. The printer grows the parts in one take, with no assembly or fasteners required even for moving pieces.

To find out more about the project, read our original story, 3D printing: The world's first printed plane.

First time I've been on the computer over the holiday.  Thanks for the Christmas present, binve.  I continue to be blown away by the technology.  Unbelievable.

Hey man, glad you liked it! I hear you, this is really awesome technology. It will be really impressive in a couple of decades when they will be able to 'print' cars, planes, computer cases, etc. You name it. This will be the start of a design revolution.
