So, you are happily typing away your blog post. The blogging system automatically starts a new line when get the end of the current line. When you want a new paragraph, you hit ENTER. The display inserts a blank like then starts you on a new line. But: what if you want to start a new line, but do not want a blank line also (maybe you are doing a list)?

If you want a
single
space
like
this
hold down SHIFT, press ENTER

To get

double

space

like

this

Just press ENTER

This has to do with the old “Line Feed” (LF) key on older, pre-MS Word keyboards. Shift+Enter is how you get it these days. LF just starts a new line; Enter by itself starts a new paragraph. Uniquely, TMF Blog formats these 2 differently.
