wait a second...wait a second...

so you idiots are all saying that is OK to send a human being, one of our kind, to jail FOR LIFE because he is a thief??

What is this?? Saudi Freaking Arabia???

I wouldn't want to send a perosn to jail even if he stole money from me.

An old German saying says: Keep your belongings close to yourself instead of calling your neighbor a theif.

Another German/Iranian saying says: Trust is good, to investigate/do research is better!

It's yoru own damn greedy people's fault if you just trust a guy for 40 years who made you millions.

And we all talk about people who lost money. What about all those people who tripples or doubled their money each year for 40 years????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think all in all it's a wash and he should be out of prison.

He doesn't belong in the same category as psychotic killers.

We send this guy to jail for financial fraud yet we have child molesting priests who are still preaching in churches!!!???

WTH????!!!!!

When we sent Madof to prison was a sad day in my life because I immigrated to this country 20 years ago hoping humans have right in this country....we are becoming like Iran or some 3rd world country.

In Germany or in Europe he would never go to jail for this. He would have been celebrity and his knowledge would be appreciated. He would have had a best seller.

He is a genius and people say he is a criminal should give back the money he made them over 40 years....then he can return that money to people he took it from.

It's gonna be a wash and he doesn't deserve to be in prison...for 2 months..OK fine...but for life????!!!! No one benefits from him being in prison.

It's just fashionable to hate him, but you are right. He should be free by now.

Some of the earlier investors obviously were aware they were participating in a fraud, and those who did profit from that are going to be forced through clawbacks to give back their profits, and all that money will be placed into a pool to be divided amongst the later investors, the ones who got in too late to profit and in fact many of whom lost everything. So pretty much everybody's screwed, and no one will be getting more than a fraction of the money from their profits or their loss.

And of course he deserves to be in prison for life. He's a scumbag who stole from friends as well as charities, universities, religious organizations, endowments, etc etc etc. There's no shrugging off what he did or trying to minimize it. It's all right there in black and white, he violated the law to an extreme degree, and is serving the appropriate sentence for that.

He doesn't seem to be too broken-up about it. Hell, every picture you see of him now, he still bares that characteristic smirk, like the cat who swallowed the canary or something. Hey, he got to live like the Grand Poobah of High Street for 40 years during the prime of his life, so given that glorious time, maybe spending the last decade or so of his life incarcerated is not that big a price to pay for all that fun and frolic.

I don't care. Let him rot. He's safer in there anyway. There are people out for his blood, and deservedly so.

Interesting point my friend.  Usually theft gets around 2-10 years so it would make sense to give him around 12 years because of the magnitude of the crime.  In America theft gets about that much.  According to you, in Europe, people don't seem to care too much about theft.

-did you move here hoping to have a right to cheat people?

There is no doubt that the legal system in the US is as broken and fraudulent as Madoff himself.  There is also no doubt that Madoff should be locked away for life.

A better argument may be to ask why an NFL player gets 30 days for manslaughter while drunk and a Madoff gets a life term for financial fraud.

It's been my experience that anyone that starts off a conversation by calling everyone else idiots, is usually an idiot.

Honestly I think we need to get Madoff out and let him run either Social Security or Medicare. Then at least the government would be slightly honest about the condition of the program and would have someone experienced in charge. Who knows he might skim less than the current organizers.

In China Madoff would be executed.  Madoff is at best a parasite that brings nothing of value to society, at worst he ruins lives.  From a utilitarian perspective I can think of no good reason to not just put two in his dome and call it a day.... better yet hang him... rope is cheap.

Yes, that's what this idiot is saying.  I'm not sure what you're saying...  Are you saying that someone who forcibly robs someone at gunpoint and takes their life savings should also be out in a few months?  If someone snuck into your house, or your bank account and took everything you had... then after spending a couple months in jail, came back and did it again... you'd be ok with that?

You're missing a ton of perspective.

no no no...he did not force people at gun points to give him their money. greedy, stupid people gave him the money volunteerly. and he made money for many of them for 40 years.

and i can't believe i am the only one who gets angry about charities that put donator's money in stocks. what in hell is that?

I bet if people knew that many charities put the money in stock market they would have never donated their hard earned money.

when I donate to an organization, i do so because I think there are some people out there who are more desperete than me and need the money NOW!

When I donate money to an organization, I don't want to pay someone's salary first (who might even earn more money than me) and I don't want that person to gamble my money in stocks.

If a charity has soooo much money left over that they can gamble it in stocks they don't desereve to call themselves charity.

I can't belive I donated my hard earned money to those thieves...yes I am calling those charity organizations thieves!!!

If anyone they are the one who belong in prison. They deserved a guy like Madof.

Madof should be free because people gave him their money volunteerly and there is no difference with investing in stocks.

Do you think most companies are not running a pyramid scheme?? Do you think most companies don't cook their books?

That's now part of capitalism. Sending Madof to prison for life is like spitting in the face of capitalism and Adam Smith!!!!!!!!!
