Rescued, 40 beagles from Spain who have spent their entire lives inside a lab.

The vid shows them experiencing the outdoors and sunshine for the first time ever in their life.

" target="_self">Beagle Freedom Project

Their site http://www.beaglefreedomproject.org/

and it was also shown in YAHOO http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/video-rescued-beagle-dogs-experience-sunlight-first-time-221217299.html

(ARME's Beagle Freedom Project spokesman Gary Smith said the beagles, all between ages 4 and 7, had lived in cages their entire lives. "We've been told they lived one per cage in rooms of 10 beagles, but they never had any physical interaction with one another," Smith told the station. "They've been in kennels since they were rescued about a week ago, but aside from that, they've spent most of their lives locked up.")

I couldn't help it but this vid really touched me. Beagles are great dogs.

blesto, long Beagles

And something else Chrono.

Have you ever had a pet?

It is an investment that has many intangible returns, and if this influences someone to make that investment of their heart, time, and money then that's great!!

And not to mention that more pet owners are good for a company like PetSmart, Inc (Nasdaq: PETM )

blesto, blogging on and no position in PETM

Oh mercy, stop me if I start to ramble.

Thankyou rd80. I might as well unless it's about the dogs of the dow. I don't think I'd take stock advice from anyone with a CAPS score as low as mine.

Since I started talking about Pet Smart (PETM), lets take a little looksie.

I've compiled a list of metrics from Fool articles I like to use. I quote Anand Chokkavelu, CFA  TMFBomb, "  Numbers can lie -- but they're the best first step in determining whether a stock is a buy."

Factor            | What I like                    |  Actual    | Pass/Fail

Growth          | 5yr rev grwth  >15%     |  7.02%     | Fail

                      | 1yr rev grwth >12%     |  6.70%     | Fail

Margins         | Gross >35%                | 33.5%      | Fail

                      | Net   >15%                  |  4.6%       | Fail

Bal Sheet      | Ttl Debt/Eqty <50%     |  49%        | Pass

                      | Current Ratio >1.5      |  1.9          | Pass

Opportunities | ROE   >15%               |  24.3%    | Pass

Valuation       | Normalized P/E <20x  | 23.6x      | Fail

Dividend        | Current Yield >2%      |  1.2%      | Fail

                      | 5yr div grwth rt >10% |  39% !!!   | Pass

                      | Payout ratio  <75%    |   22%      | Pass

5 out of 11 Some room for improvement. That 5 year div growth rate made me do a double take. Makes me think I should dig a little deeper.

Another metric is the CCC (Cash Conversion Cycle) http://wiki.fool.com/Cash_conversion_cycle A little more than I want to do right now.

The lower the better but <90 days is okay for me. It's better to figure the CCC several years back to look at the trend.

I'll close with one more quote from Seth Jayson TMFBent, "If you take the time to read past the headlines and crack a filing now and then, you're probably ahead of 95% of the market's individual investors."

blesto, no position in PETM but I'm gonna put them on my watchlist.
