I wonder why the Pres. Decided to bring in GE to help him get business going in the USA. Yea right well between BP and GE we are doing just great. I wonder how much Health Care is going up because of this.I will be shorting GE and Camco. Personally between GE receiving the Tarp and the Japan disasters well I believe we need to breakup GE and sell the parts. Oh did I forget closing down factories here that made light bulbs. Now the Gov. say's we can only have the the Green ones. Oh made in China with Mercury. We are being annihilated live for today for tomorrow you might now be here. Well more so now that I saw this.

The GE Reactors shut down like they were supposed to.  The problem was the backup generators were supposed to turn on to cool the reactors but they got taken out by the tsunami.  It was a failure of the Japanese power company to think of the worst case scenario.  I still can't believe the power company put 6 reactors in 1 spot.  That is epic stupidity.

Those reactors still have not gone critical.  The only radiation released has been from the spent fuel pool above the reactor.  The reactors are an old design but they have constantly upgraded them as technology has improved.  These reactors were hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami and still haven't gone critical.  If the power lines and backup generators hadn't been taken out tsunami we would not be talking about this.

This is exhibit A in How a Society's Time Preference Changes. Time preference was always a rather nebulous concept to me, but it's important to understand it when trying to understand the natural rate of interest. When time preference rises (as shown here), interest rates rise. This is because people are subjectively changing their valuation of present goods, which are always more highly valued than future goods, and setting the value even higher. "For tomorrow you might not be here" is a call to spend now and stop saving. This drives prices higher and interest rates higher.

If civilization survives the pending monetary crisis, such emotions should calm down and we'll see lower time preference: prices settling down, savings rising, and interest rates lowering.

But, you might say, interest rates are already low! I'm talking about "natural" interest rates; those that would arise from free market forces, absent interventions in the money supply (and absent any legal restrictions on interest rates--obsolete usury laws). We see low interest rates now because the Fed is creating more money to buy Treasuries (QE). This raises prices and lowers interest rates, as there are now more debased dollars to go around, chasing the same number of goods and services.

BTW, I don't mean to be critical of your emotions. Your emotions are your own, and frankly if one did want to analyze them, they very well could be justified by what is happening. I just find it interesting and instructive.

rf you are right. So much of this disturbed me. Are Nukes really being used it Falugia? Is all the land contaminated around the globe? Are all or most of the children in Falugia being born like the lady described. Is that what Japan has to look forward to? I makes me physically sick to even think that is happening much less to be a person who is having to go through that is inconceivable to me. It is not just GE. Who owns the Fed? If we had let the banks fail this would have all been behind us by now. Unfortunately we are about to come under the NWO funded by the UN and others. If we do survive then we will have something to celebrate. For now there is such evil being done for control of the world. I will take what little joy I can when I can for the sorrows of the people weigh on my soul. one little joy are the iridescent colors on soap bubbles as I wash dishes and just try to think about that and nothing else.
