What experience and history teach is this -- that people and governments never have learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it - Georg Wilhelm Hegel, 1770 - 1831

I found this 1875 gem on Wikipedia "economic bubble.

Love the reference at the bottom where it shows "United States Housing Bubble (as of 2007) - (The former Florida swampland real estate bubble.)"

Wikipedia also has a fairly interesting write up on Stock Market Crashes.

Interesting quote here, under the subtitle Mathematical Theory of Stock Market Crashes "The conventional assumption that stock markets behave according to a random Gaussian or normal distribution is incorrect."

This is an unexpected quote,  "China's economic growth over the past few years has been phenomenal. Growth in international trade has created a demand for property that has hitherto been unheard of. Urban centres such as Shanghai and Beijing have witnessed a growth in prices to the point where many local people would now be unable to purchase the homes in which they live."

So, this Wikipedia article has no citations but it should make one question how China is going to pull the world out of an economic slump when many people can't afford where they live, and that news article I was reading earlier in the week that food is up 18%.  Go China Go!

dwot,

Another good post. MF needs to put you on the payroll.

I am beginning to wonder if we will have a depression or a panic. I hope I am way over estimating the issues at hand.

The good news is Ron Paul has picked up another $3.6 million today!
