Global Gains on Twitter

June 25, 2009 – Comments (1)

We'll be sending tweets back from China. This is a first-time experiment for us, so no promises on the value of our <140 characters.

Anybody have thoughts on how to be a good Tweeter? Put 'em in the comments.

As you take photos (e.g., in China), photo services such as twitpic provide an easy-to-use platform for posting photos from your cell phone (if you can access a data service) or from your laptop with a short, pithy comment that goes straight to your twitter profile.

And as you already found, it's a great way to provide a short comment on a linked article--where you don't want to write a full blog post.

Morevoer, it's good to establish a dialog via tweets and "re-tweets" with other twitterers who post on international investment and relevant international issues--it increases exposure to your posts, integrates additional viewpoints and tips your followers off to other tweeters that they may want to follow.  As with the recent events in Iran, some of the best news came from twitterers on the streets of Tehran.  The best media sites (e.g., the New York Times) helped to find and highlight some of the top twitter users in Iran so readers could follow along.

Finally, if/when you start to follow a lot of people, you may want to start using a platform such as tweetdeck to organize/categorize the people you follow--both by topic categories and by importance (to you).

I've only been on twitter for a couple months, but those are some of the highlights of what I've learned.
