Good, Cheap Summer Wine Find

July 09, 2010 – Comments (3) | RELATED TICKERS: WIN , E

We recently tried Espiral Vinho Verde and really enjoyed it.  This wine occupies rare territory in the house; both my wife and I liked it (I like dry wine, she likes sweetier, fruitier wine).  Finding a wine we both like is unusual; finding something cheap we both like is cause for celebration and blogging.

The best way I can describe the wine is like biting in to a tart apple.  It's got a little bit of bubbly action going on, and really hits the spot on a hot day when served ice cold.

For those who like CAPS blogs to have an investing/finance angle...  This stuff is a whopping $4 a bottle at Trader Joe's.  Maybe it's not the best Vihno Verde on the planet (or maybe it is), but four bucks!  Take the money you save from not buying expensive wine and invest it. Finance angle covered.

Sort of related sidebar:  We have a new house rule.  Pork loin roast shall be cooked only in the charcoal smoker.  No exceptions. Ever.

Fool on!

Love this Vinho Verde ! We mix it with a little lemonade.. (suggestion by crew manager at Trader Joe's..) makes for a great lawn mowing break ! Also, gotta try their Chariot red wine.

The price is right, the taste is decent, and it is completely refreshing, with or without the lemonade.

 I know, there are those out there who would shudder at the thought of a wine cooler ! Alas, it is a great liquid refreshment.. so what if it has a mixer.. so do Margaritas !!

 Enjoy !!

Comrades . . .

     I saw your TJ's and wine discussion, and just had to add this . . .

Alexander & Fitch Alexander Valley Cabernet

     This wine explodes on your tongue. Do not expect anything subtle, dry or lingering on the palate. And that's just what I like. It's a real bargain at $5.99 ($6.99 outside CA). Try it with a variety of cheese, apples, and even jalapeños. (MY WIFE LIKED IT TOO! Gents . . . isn't that 75% of your wine battles :-)

@mrkwilder - I bet the V V is good mixed with lemonade.

@oshiri  - Thanks for the recommendation.  I'll look for the A & F cab next time I'm out shopping.
