Gun-Toting Financial Execs? Gun-Shy Consumers?

December 03, 2009 – Comments (4) | RELATED TICKERS: GS

Quick article for Rumor has it that senior Goldman Sachs executives are packing heat. I joked about sticking themselves up in the piece, but then later remembered my article from last November, I Think We Just Got Mugged; actually I guess they don't really need to, eh? (Which I guess brings us right back to the idea that the public sentiment might lean towards rage and the resulting paranoia.)

The rumors about Goldman sound a bit "news of the weird," but retail tidings probably don't sound so weird at all under current circumstances. Some of us have been thinking a lot about Black Friday, the holiday shopping season, and so forth. So I guess it comes as no surprise: News Flash: Retail Stinks!

Another reminder, Fools: it's annual Foolanthropy time. If you guys aren't already aware, for every blog post and comment (on and on the CAPS blogs) during the campaign (from now until Jan. 8), the Fool will kick in $0.10 to the campaign pledge (up to $20,000).

I wouldn't be in the shoes of a Goldman Exec for anything. If I can't sleep at night, it is because of  allergies, indigestion, or too much MSG (I love Chinese food, but it doesn't always love me), not because I'm worried about my enemies getting me. I'd rather have a clear conscience than a cadre of Blackhawk trained mercenaries at my back.

I'm with you, lemoneater! I have often thought about some of the CEOs of some companies in the last year or so, what they have tried to get away with (or apparently, seemed to have felt "entitled" to), and wondered how they could sleep at night. (Of course the gun angle seems like a whole new level of things... nothing to do with a clear conscience, just the realization that people are angry...)

sounds like some of you are anti-gun, and that is sad... carrying a gun doesn't insure safety, only helps level the playing field.
