How Come Silver Miners Were Down Yesterday?

August 09, 2011 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: SIL

So yesterday was a major down day on most markets. There were only a few exceptions: Treasuries (how ironic), gold and gold miners, and silver (but not silver miners). My question to the experts here on CAPS (OK, non-experts can chime in as well):

Why did silver miners follow the stock market rather than the commodity?

Disclosure: long SIL at the time of writing.

This is frustrating me as well... Equities up across the board, but as usual my PM equities not moving much at all. Yesterday the HUI and XAU were up a lot at the start of trading leading me to believe they finally might be reacting to the actual PM prices, but then they gave up almost all their gains and the XAU went quite deep into negative territory. I can only ask, why?
