I Called the 10% rise of Osiris Therapeutics

June 28, 2011 – Comments (4) | RELATED TICKERS: OSIR

I used tech analysis, as posted on my blog-

Ascending Triangle-Osiris Therapeutics

All I said in the post was that it was nearing the end of the triangle, a longer term(lol several months isnt longer term but whatever) technical indicator. However, upon request I expanded on that claim saying "I am predicting a breakout of around 10 to 15%." If you had bought OSIR after reading my post, you would have gone up AT LEAST 10.8%. However, I will concede that looking back,  if I was a reader I wouldn't have believed me and bought in, I didn't supply enough details-I apologize. Also, keep in mind that this is one example where my technical indicator worked, but that this is no proof of technical investing being 100%-Terrible fundamentals can always override my technical signals.

And did you take your own advice??  I dont' see it on your caps list. I also don't see any other picks that had a 10% breakout on your list.

Technical analysis is a valid tool. Some people play it pure and some people bundle it with fundamentals.  Of course some people are pure fundamentals.

I personally like a mix. Normally I would avoid TA on a pharmaceutical as they do make or break by catalysts, but Osiris does have a pretty trading chart with just the float balnace to be  predictable within limits.  Any catalyst as ZZ referred to or any major market movement will break the sine wave.

Good luck.

well yes, i did take my own advice, i just didn't trust it completely :P, i closed the pick early when it was up 7%. And no other picks had a 10% breakout but I didn't call them for those reasons, i primarily pick based on fundamentals rather than technicals(maybe 2 of 40 are technical signals)-I don't mean to say that i am an oracle, my caps score speaks for itself in that way :P

You're right of course, everything you said about catalysts and TA rings true. The reason I went in on a pharmaceutical was because, although there was risk of a catalyst, OSIR had been up to $8 three times in the last year, so I thought that the volatility of the stock could go in my favor. Basically hoping that the breakout would happen before a catalyst(which wasn't THAT hard to do because my triangle has a 'time limit' for the triangle anyways).

Also, I have another account, 'technologic' that I use for 'pure technicals.' I just started it recently to track my technical progress so if you want to see how that worked out you can check there-i have made some mistakes but I've also gotten some little wins.
