Yes the price of oil is falling, but the number of flights are being reduced but their fixed costs and overhead remain the same.  Nickel and diming passengers is not going to make it up.   Market is saturated and needs to adjust for the shift in demand for their services.

I totally agree, but they're KILLING my score!

I'm a good candidate for coldest 1-day player at the moment.  I used to be ranked 50th!

Unless they happen to also own an oil field, most of these airlines will go bankrupt.

Can anyone name an airline that hasn't and is going to be profitable ?

I am taking a close look at airlines stocks lately. I opened few outperform calls for a short timeframe. Will do it in my real life portfolio too if my technical criteria are met in the next few weeks.

I owned Hawaiian Holdings for a little bit...it seems to do well relative to the other ones.  Recently I just jumped into United and am up about 37% in about a week... As was said above, long term, these things are goners, but I can't resist the short term extreme negative sentiment.

I am still mad I didn't green thumb U.S. Airways - a very smart quantitative fund manager told me he thought it could be a 10 bagger if oil prices fell - he was close to being right.

That said... let me now say (as if I was a southwest airlines commercial) ... "You are now free to short the airlines"
