I just made the best Silver investment of my life today!
On the way home I stopped by an auction for a local storage company. There are lots of contractors in my area, and given the economy, I was looking to snag some industrial grade power tools at consumer grade prices.
I didn't have much luck with that. There were plenty of tools, but not at what I wanted to pay.
I did come across a silver tea set though and while I couldn't be sure that it wasn't plated, it at least looked like it had the same sheen as the bullion that I've seen. I decided to take a chance and since most of the bidders were guys looking for power tools like I was, I was able to get the set for $125.00. Once I got my hands on it I was happy! The manfacturer was French and the date stamp was 1880. I was pretty confident that something like this would be worth at least a few times what I paid for it.
I drove straight from the auction to the antique shop to get an estimate. The antique dealer told me that it was .950 silver, (Sterling Silver is only .925) He offered me $6000 for it!
Not bad for $125 investment!
