I Love You - say it with stocks?
Stocks are better than either flowers or candy. Diamonds even. After all, only with the thousands (millions?) earned from smart investing can you buy all these things and more.
But of course that's a fantasy. I'd be out of the bed and onto the couch faster than a cat at the Westminster Dog Show were I to give my sweetie a bushel of General Electric (NYSE: GE) or Home Depot (NYSE: HD) stock certificates instead of a bouquet of red roses for Valentines Day.
Yet I buy stocks for her IRA all the time. Of those she owns, I think Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-B) says "I love you" the most. There's something romantic about combining ice cream (Dairy Queen), candy (See's), and cozy layers of insurance products into one position.
But that's just how I see it. What stock would you get for your Valentine? Would it be cheap? A fast grower? An enduring business? A small cap? A dividend payer? An exotic token from a far-away land?
