Citigroup Chief Expresses ‘Gratitude’ to Bailout Panel
"Vikram S. Pandit, Citigroup’s chief executive, is expected to tell a government panel overseeing the bailout program on Thursday that the bank owes a “large debt of gratitude” to American taxpayers for stabilizing it with billions of dollars of federal aid.
"In a statement prepared for delivery before the Congressional Oversight Panel, Mr. Pandit stops short of a formal apology and does not highlight the specific errors that Citigroup executives made in the run-up to the financial crisis. But his testimony tries to turn the page on the bank’s past and get ahead of fierce questioning from the five-member committee."
