In simple terms. Market will drop more.

Why will the stock market drop even more? Simple. Freezing the peoples wages. Making us more productive for less pay. Higher taxes. Printing dollars out the kazoo. Prices are not coming down and if they do the Government is taxing the heck out of us. So in a simple view. Low pay. Low Buying Power. Simple. Oh and don't forget the intress we will have to pay back on the rented currency we call the dollar.

Tax rates versus many other industrialized nations are still relatively low.  In addition, long-term capital gains tax rates are still modest.

There are plenty of reasons for the market to be at these levels - and even to retest the lows we saw in early March.  Breaking below those levels will require additional bad news that hasn't yet been factored in - and everything mentioned in this post is already calculated into the market's March lows.

nau99 good points. However I was talking the year. You see the unintended consequences is the new lower wages and bonuses being cut. They are taking out billions from the economy. Instead of taking the money from the bonuses and raising the lower tier workers they just don't use it. So the next contraction is soon to come. The IMF won't see this one coming. My health insurance went up by 15.00 dollars a week and tax on cigarettes went up 1.00 a pack. My wage increase was 25 cents hour. Wage increase was just wiped out and then some. SO. Hence I will cut back to afford those 2 things and so will millions of Americans.

The US government is producing as much bad news as dollars.  Investors are tired of this long financial winter and are looking for any sign of hope, which partly explains this bear market rally.  There are few things which could solve our debt problems without starting a global war.

One solution is man made:  Computer virus that is able to corrupt banking data around the world.

The second solution is God made:  Solar flare which could interfere with all electrical systems including the internet and data storage.

It may be a good time to make a printed copy of your financial accounts and store them in a safe place, just in case.

How can you be so sure all your points are not already priced in? That is the question.

Everyone knows it's going to be bad. But how can you be so sure that it's going to be worse than everyone fears? What makes you think you have a better grasp of economics than the majority of market participants?
