With over 2/3 of the American economy is dependent on the consumer.......if the consumer doesn't have a job....the consumer will have a tough time spending........if the consumer is not spending.....the economy, as we know it, is in trouble........

By the end of this week....Real unemployment in America will likely exceed 17%......

When will things start to break down???

Let's hope we don't find out.............................

Unemployment only matters to the extent that these people cannot collect from the welfare state. As long as they can sit on unemployment, disability, WIC or some other kind of government dole then they can keep spending somewhere.

When those things dry up most people will loose a little pride and start some kind of business. Landscaping, construction, handyman, childcare at rates that would make illegal's blush.

Things then start moving again. Of course if the government prevents this kind of ingenuity then you'll get the riots you predict.

The 83% with a job can easily spend us out of unemployment declines eventually.  I am doing my part to spend like crazy to include Clothes, Shoes, Vacation trip to Las Vegas coming up, Video Games, Premium Beverages.....  I am buying my heart out here cause I will not allow America's economy to include MICHIGAN's economy to go in the crapper without a fight:-)

Plus given how much money I am raking in by being SUPER LONG on the market since March 2008 (when I first got into the market).... I mean I kept being long...kept increasing my share counts....only occasionally abandoning 1 equity in favor of another....  And that's paid off.. I have now more than doubled my portfolio unrealized cash flow.

With this kind of cash flowing in....Spending is in!

Any thoughts on how the Chrysler bankruptcy is (or could be) a desparate play to hold down unemployment?  Call me a cynic, but I don't believe that the government has its fingers in that particular pie for purely altruistic (alstryistic?) or idealistic reasons?

If you would, take a look and add your thoughts...
