Inside the World's Most Humane Prison

In contrast I think paying Mexico a annual fee to incarcerate our most violent offenders is a better alternative. I can't think of a worse place to be incarcerated from watching all those *Locked Up Abroad" shows. Besides the conditions under which the convicts would find themselves I can't help but think the cost to the tax payers would be less.

Forgive my less than kumbaya additude this morning but I think that a prison's job is to be a unpleasant place. Perhaps my outlook on this subject is a little too 19th century, but that is my state of mind when it comes to murders and rapists.

I'll now inject some caffeine and get some work done.

Guess which system produces a lower rate of recidivism.

Interesting view of "prison life."  It looks much nicer than the college dorm that I lived in.  If I ever find myself homeless, I could go to Norway and commit a small crime in order to be housed in that lovely facility.  Can't help but wonder if the victims of crimes have homes as nice as this.

Maybe caffiene would help, but Cato, I agree with you.

One problem that I see with our system of criminal justice is the lack of distinction between offenders who need/deserve incarceration as punishment, and those offenders who need/deserve rehabilitation. There truly are people arrested and convicted who can be rehabilitated with little to no risk of recidivism. But, we are a very vengeful society. We want and demand that people pay for what they have done. You hurt me...so now I'm going to hurt you.

The two big problems with this approach:
1) It doesn't result in reduced crime rates
2) It's really, really expensive
