Intentional zero

December 09, 2008 – Comments (3)

A few of you (Ok one, so far) may be wondering how my caps ranking went from 30th or so to zero, no score. The answer is that I've closed out all my picks. I'm pretty busy with Hidden Gems and other research now, and my Caps strategy (what there was of it) required some degree of active picking and pruning. I prefer to reallocate the moments formerly devoted to making off-the-cuff Caps picks to doing more focused work to help Fools in general, and Hidden Gems subscribers in particular. So, I figured I would just freeze my score where it was rather than let it atrophy for lack of attention.

Fool on, folks.

Whenever I fall below the necessary 7 picks, I'll select an ETF that closely follows the S&P 500 like IVV, VV, or VTI as a safe placeholder to maintain my score.  The worst that can happen with one of those is small (1%) loss.

Yeah, I think you ought to do as Hodarius says and stick with a minimum of 7 picks, surely you have time to choose those and check up on them once a week or so, no?
