Geeknet (NASDAQ:GKNT) Media Division SourceForge Under Attack by More than DDOS?

On July 8th ExtremeTech journalist, Sebastian Anthony, released an article entited "SourceForge is still harboring pornography and malware" where he stated

"...No less than a month ago, GFI Labs reported that SourceForge.net was riddled with a malware-cum-rogue antivirus package called FakeRean. Today, GFI Labs has posted the results of a follow-up investigation and found that, rather shockingly, SourceForge is still swamped with profile pages and forum posts that lead to websites hosting lolita pornography and malware…Just this week we wrote a story about laziness destroying our online security. Laziness on behalf of the end-user is bad enough, but ultimately forgivable. For administrators to know that a site the size of SourceForge is being subverted into spreading malware, however, is truly obscene…If you don’t want to share a site that advertises lolita porn, check out the new star in open source’s crown: GitHub. Google Code and Microsoft’s CodePlex are full-featured and quickly gaining in popularity too...Read GFI Labs’ findings or about SourceForge dropping behind GitHub..." [Emphasis added].

Are R&D reductions (4) proximate cause? Said allegations, if true, would be actionable by (including but not limited to) GKNT non-insider shareholders and the GKNT Board of Directors.

I am confident Kenneth Langone has already dispatched their lead counsel, Carol DiBattiste, along with their legendary and equally formidable law firm,  Wachtel, Lipton, Rosen, & Katz to look into any/all alleged connections between Github, GFI Labs, ExtremeTech, Sebastian Anthony et al including all said referenced  articles/allegations (some of which appear to be allegedly seemingly/uncharacteristically aggressive?).

Q2 ending June 30, 2011 has passed and numbers are pending release around August 4th.

Any accordant due diligence would include ex-SourceForge/Geeknet employees/Director(s) whose departures were cited on this blog q2 2010 - q1 2011.

Note: ThinkGeek, GKNTs eCommerce Division, accounts for only 4M-5M monthly uniques. SourceForge, Slashdot, and Freshmeat account for appx. 45M, of which, Geeknet has failed to monetize.

So, Sourceforge.net responded to the various aggressive articles seemingly attacking Sourceforge and promoting Github.

"...SourceForge: Working to Make Our Site Better Every Day Posted on Monday, July 11th, 2011 by Elizabeth Naramore

You may have read a recent article on ExtremeTech about potential links from SourceForge.net to offending content sites.  Just for the record, SourceForge does not tolerate this kind of abuse.  In a recent example, we addressed a similar issue and remain committed to our site policies.

SourceForge is dedicated to providing great tools to an open community where you can find, create and publish great open source software.  This mission means we allow developers from around the world to publish related content on our site.  While the overwhelming majority of people are good, it’s inevitable that some will abuse the privileges and post inappropriate content.  This type of issue is one faced by other top internet sites with community created content.

We appreciate every report of abuse - that helps us protect our community.  We have taken action to remove the links discussed in this article.  To put this into perspective, the issue highlighted in this report affected an estimated 0.01% of our traffic in the last quarter.  Despite the relatively few people impacted, we apologize for any inconvenience..."

An estimated .01% of traffic.

Again, I am confident that Kenneth Langone and the GKNT Board of Directors are pursuing anyone related to all said related articles with full investigative and legal recourse. Something is wrong with this picture.
