Israel has allowed a former U.S. congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney, to return home days after detaining her and other activists on board a ship carrying relief supplies for Gaza, a pro-Palestinian group said on Monday.

Israeli authorities intercepted the vessel, which had 21 activists on board, on June 30 and said it would not be permitted to enter Gaza's coastal waters because of security risks in the area and an existing naval blockade.

A ship transporting humanitarian aid including a former a U.S. Congresswoman is captured in international waters, she and twenty others are arrested, and imprisoned on or about June 30th, and NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF IT IS MADE IN THE AMERICAN MAINSTREAM PRESS?????????

Didn't President Obama just order humantarian aid should be sent to the region???

Are we about to start a war to light up the Middle East???  Will the war be BIG enough to mask the finanical fraud riddled throughout our financial system???

How could the imprisonment of a former U.S Congresswoman not make any of our mainstream media outlet.

You think we don't want to put a key ally of ours in negative light right before a conflict begins?

What is the press trying to hide from you????

Prepare.....Don't Fear.....9.09 will soon be here.

Did you know that the US is ranked 36th in the world for "freedom of the press?" The US is tied with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cape Verde, South Africa, Spain and Taiwan.

McKinney was the Green Party candidate for Pres in 2008. She joined a petition with Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, and Chuck Baldwin calling for an immediate audit of the Fed and an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

I think she was arrested by the Israelis at the start of the short war last year too for trying to bring relief supplies to the Palestinians.

Just some background.

(Btw, I'm not a big fan of trying to claim human rights status when entering a war zone. Ya kinda get what you got coming. Not taking a side here, just saying.)

A Nobel Peace Prize winner and a former U.S. congresswoman are among eight people to be released today and expelled after having sailed on a protest ship heading to Gaza from Cyprus, the Israeli Interior Ministry says.

Mairead Corrigan Maguire, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976 for her peace campaign in Northern Ireland, has been in prison in Israel since Tuesday after being removed from the ship.

Don't you think it is a significant news event when a former U.S. Congresswoman and Nobel Peace Prize winner are captured in international waters and imprisoned???

The question is why is the story being surpressed in America when it is headlines around the world????

Fox News reported on it substantially... http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/search?q=Cynthia+McKinney  It was even headlined.

It was also on the Drudge Report.  Despite the allegations that Drudge & Fox are biased, their coverage truly is ***more*** "fair & balanced.  And yes, if you look at the eyeballs on Fox & Drudge, they are THE major outlets for news.  Sorry Katie.  Your ratings just keep slipping.

And for the record, despite the philosophical differences, the detaining of the ship was covered by Limbaugh, Hannity, & Beck.  Their coverage on the incident was more extensive than even NPR.  And yes, I listen to all and compare & contrast the coverage.

And for the record, the shipment was not all that big.  It was more to provoke the Israeli's than to offer true humanitarian aid.  So it really wasn't that news worthy.  McKinney et al knew going in that they would be detained - even had their press releases pre-scheduled to go out.  There's really no news here.  Shouldn't we be more interested in the beafication of a self-absorbed pedophile than world politics any way!?!  :o

What I found after roughly 10 Google pages was that with the exception of a mention by Fox News and a blurb in the Washington Post and Seattle Times, this was considered a "non-event" apparently by our press.

Unsettling.

The blogs were all over it as well as a contingent of the foreign press especially the British press but ours?  Not so much.  Had any other country in the area detained the Congresswoman, it would have sparked an international incident and that is certain.  Makes me wonder what else we don't know.

Alstry - According to Google News there are over 600 'articles' regarding her release, and over 2,000 regarding her being detained.  Admitedly not all focus on her being captured, but the point being, it was covered.  I fail to see how unreported news = war.  There are constantly stories that aren't covered, or glossed over, or whatever, and we're not going to war over it.  Maybe they didn't make a big deal out of... because it wasn't a big deal.  Was Israel putting her on trial?  No.  They just said, "Sorry, you can't go there, come with me for a few days and you can go home."  WOW, now THERE is an international conflict for ya.

Furthermore, to speculate there will be war in the Middle East is like speculating that California will have some financial problems.  No duh.   That's kind of what they do.  And no doubt that Team America World Police will be there in the thick of it.  But this is nothing new.  In case you haven't noticed, we've been at war in the middle east for the past 7 years or so.

If she was a spy, the American people have a right to know.  If she was a criminal, the American people have a right to know.  If Israel had probable cause to arrest her, the America people have a right to know.

As far as your 600 Google hits, how many of them came  from CBS, NBC, ABC, or CNN????

Funny how people let emotions get in the way of analysis......

The issue is whether it is news or not news that the American people should know about.  It seems that the World's press thought it was news that made the Front Page in many cases.....

I've never had the Irish poet as a Congressman. I am almost sure he is a good natured attention whore. Is he demented or racist? I could'nt tell you. What I can tell you is a poet engaging in a political statement, disguised as a humanitarian effort, does nothing for me. A celebrity endorsment does not equal to right action or thought. Just because the Nobel Committee likes your work and chucks a bronze medallion at you does not make it so you can do no wrong.

I think the main reason this made more news elsewhere is that it involved McKinney. I am serious. She is a joke we choose to overlook. I am sure Obama has no time to deal with her crap. If he had openly said anything to the press about this he would have given her the spotlight, something I believe he does not want to do. The times her name does come out in the press most of us would rather straighten the wires behind our stereos than listen to the latest stupid thing thing she had to say. For the entertainment value do some homework on the woman. You will see how ineffective she was while in Congress and how much of a trainwreck she is.

Are we about to enter into another war? Heck, I don't know. I hope not.

This has been an interesting excercise for the Intstitute of Alstrynomics....

It is clear that many cannot divide their political bias from reviewing the objective facts.

The only issue is whether it is a newsworthy event.  Not the bias of the individual involved.

The whole world, ex America, thought this was a very newsworthy event.  It was a BIG story in many locations.  Now the only question is why???  Even the Isreali's thought this was a newsworthy event as it was plastered all over both the conservative Jeruselem Post and liberal Haraatz newspapers.

The question now is why was the capturing of a humanitarian boat, where such boat was captured in international waters and not soverign territory, carrying American citizens, including a former U.S. Congresswoman and Nobel Peace Prize winner newsworthy in practically every nation on earth except America?????

Then you should ask yourself, what else is being intentionally concealed from you?????  That is the real question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just look at what happened to the poor clients of Madoff.  When an SEC employee wanted to investigate him further, she was silenced and transferred to a different assignment as Madoff's son in law was promoted in the organization.

In life, if you want to be a good analyst, you must separate political bias from objective analysis.  It is why Alstry is sooooo good, and many of you are such weak analysts......you simply can't separate emotion from critical thinking.

jd,

This morning I asked a very well known reporter from our local affiliate why the story didn't make news over the weekend, she wasn't even aware of the story.  This reporter is highly acclaimed with an Ivy League education.

Then I asked 20 highly educated and well informed individuals if they were aware of the story, NONE of them were either.  It was pretty amazing as I live in a very affluent liberal neighborhood.

My guess is that if you ask 100 people you know, more than 95 will be unware of the event.

Then if you reveiw the front page of every major newspaper, not a single one would have mentioned the event over the weekend.

But if you ask your friends how many are aware that the accused pedophile Michael Jackson passed away, 95 would say they were aware.

To Alstry, the imprisoning of a former congresswoman and Nobel Peace Prize winner is a newsworthy event, to jd, it is probably not a big deal.  That is OK, it simply helps define who we are;)

Maybe your reporter friend (or her paper) does not subscribe to the Associated Press?

Kind of a boring story.  This is the 3rd time the group has been stopped by Israeli warships.  Look at the following – looks well covered to me…:

Articles from AP

Israel deports foreign activists headed to Gaza Jul 6, 09 11:11 US activists heading for Gaza arrive in Egypt Jul 5, 09 2:43 PM Gaza aid boat passengers still in Israeli custody Jul 3, 09 11:22 Activists to continue boat trips to blockaded Gaza Jul 1, 09 11:35  Israeli navy commandeers Gaza aid boat Jun 30, 09 1:05 PM  Cyprus: Activists set sail for blockaded Gaza Jun 29, 09 2:35 AM  Activists to dey Gaza blockade again Jun 18, 09 9:15 AM CDT

From the Dec 30, ’08 incident where their boat was rammed:

The damaged vessel was received by a jubilant crowd in Lebanon, where the crew sailed because they lacked the fuel to return to Cyprus.

They went to a hostile area without enough fuel to get home?  Seems like someone wanted to get caught… Maybe to get a little attention…?

Enough to go to war over – no.  Enough of a story to be “headline news” – not so much.

My guess is that if you ask 100 people you know, more than 95 will be unware of the event.

My guess is that if you ask 100 people who Cynthia McKinney is – 99 would not have a clue.
