It's in vogue

December 11, 2008 – Comments (1)

It seems to me that the new mood of being conservative in our spending will last for several years. For the last several years it was in fashion to be extravagate. Now it’s cool to be thrifty. If your neighbor goes out and buys a Hummer you’re not envious you just sinker at there lack of judgment.

It is common for the smarter people to buy at target instead of Bed Bath and Beyond and will be for many years. It’s in vogue and will be for many years to come.

I don't know if in vogue is the only term you could use.  For some people, it is a real life-saver that "keeping up with the Jones's"  is no longer the popular thing.  You are right about that group certainly.

There is a larger group, though, that could care less about the Jones's, Smiths, Robertsons, or anybody else.  They are just trying to survive. No need to rewrite the whole thing here, but you and I share the same opinion.  You are just looking at a more wealthy crowd.  My group is in "Lost and Found -  Business as Usual in The Land of Opportunity" from Dec. 10.

One more post for sanity, one more blog for living within your means. One solid rec for the knowledge that even those not driven by necessity to hunt bargains are realizing that you don't have to pay extra to advertise someone else on the outside of your clothing - YES!
