Douglas Adams: cynical, funny, irreverant, serious, compassionate... what else could he be, but a philosopher masquerading as a sci-fi author. My husband has read him, but I've merely skimmed his book and watched a movie.
My impression is that Adam's skillful juxtaposition of the absurd and the profound is similar to that found in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
