So the CFTC has apparently approved a plan to allow movie investors to trade derivatives tied to box office receipts of the projects they're funding:

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission granted approval for Media Derivatives Inc. to launch its planned Trend Exchange, which seeks to launch futures and options on box-office receipts in the third quarter. 

It's just a matter of time, right, until we're able to start buying futures on the earnings power of individuals and athletes. And boy won't that be fun.
