I saw that David in Qatar and Chris Graley made 'catching up' posts, so I thought, "why not me?"  Actually, I've been meaning to do this for awhile. Except this post is more about keeping up with people I've met on CAPS.

As some of you might have noticed, I haven't been blogging here much lately.  I still occasionally contribute over at Seeking Alpha and on my own economics blog Malthusian Nectar. But as activity and viewership here on CAPS has dwindled, so has my activity.

All the same, this is such a fantastic community and a great asset for TMF, and I feel like it's being neglected.   I wouldn't be nearly as good of an investor without CAPS. For that reason, I'd love to keep up with many of you people I've met over this site.


The Life of Jakila

So what's going on with me?

Graduated with my MBA in May.  Life has been a rollercoaster since then. 

Had a couple of business ideas that failed, including a small business consulting practice.  When I say "fail", I really mean that I spent a month or two exploring the ideas, found them uneconomical (too much effort for too little reward).  Now I'm working on Plan C.

My investment performance has been great.  After about three years, I'm around an 18.8% annualized return.  The S&P 500 is around 9.9% for the same time frame.  My risk metrics are very similar to the S&P 500 suggesting that my risk-adjusted returns are far superior. 

Keeping Up

The main reason I wanted to post is because there's so many people here I'd like to keep up with.  I've encountered so many incredible people here, and I've learned a lot, as well.  People like checklist, TastyLunch, Deej,TMFBabo, tenmiles, zzlangerhans, chk999, floridabuilder, anticitrade, zzlangerhans, and I could go on and on.  My "favorites" list here is littered with people I have quite a bit of respect for, and would like to keep up with.

Sorry for this complicated procedure. I have my reasons for not posting real contact info here on CAPS, but would like to stay in touch with a lot of people here.

I too haven't felt like blogging here much. CAPS isn't getting much attention anymore from TMF. Too bad, this still is an amazing platform.

I agree with you about the downfall in Caps, it is a shame that so much talent and intersting Fools have fallen by the wayside because TMF just doesn't. Sad story for sure.

Nevertheless I still come to this site for my regular dose of mental economic stimuation. The blogs for the most part are lackluster.  Every once in a while I'll see a good one from one of my old favorites like whereaminow, Chrisgraley, or TMFSinchiruna to name a few. But for the most part the blogs are about as generic as the TMF articles. I don't even see Alstry blogs anymore. So I've retreated to the METAR message board.  If you notice most of the TMF Post of the day blogs tend to come from there.

Glad decided to catch up. Hope you continue to stop by ever now and again.

Outoffocus, I totally agree with most of your points in the blog. 

The Motley Fool Blog Network seems like another distraction to me. TMF is trying to imitate Seeking Alpha with it, but Seeking Alpha is the better Seeking Alpha. TMFBN has a terrible and clunky design, no one can figure out how to get there or how to get back once you are there, and as an author, you'd get much more valuable exposure at SA (and probably higher potential for compensation, too). Plus, you don't have to forfeit all the rights to your material at SA (if you chose not to).

CAPS holds a lot more value for TMF, but since they don't see immediate monetary benefits, they ignore it.  The real benefit is in the community it builds, which then helps direct people towards other more profitable TMF products.  I doubt the Blog Network is really going to add any value.
