A year and a half ago I jokingly proposed to prepare for the birth of my 3rd child (a son born 3 days after the post) that parents should consider investing in kiddie stocks.  I referenced 5 common stocks, Nestle, J & J, Disney, Hasbro and Chuck E Cheese. I wish I had followed my own advice. A quick comparison of the closing price on February 9, 2009 vs. yesterday, August 30, 2010 shows that the group of stocks outperformed the S&P 500 by more than 6% yielding a return of 30.7%.  Only J&J failed to yield a positive return showing a loss in value over the period of $1.20 or 2.1%. It should be interesting to see if I am wise enough to actually invest in the stocks now and see if in 16 years it pays off towards college.
