I LOVE this project.  Thanks Solaris for starting it up.

One green thumb per person. Minimum Time Frame 6 months. Players are free to change the pick as often as caps permits. No Ultras (FAZ was picked before the discussion was finished, and will be closed soonish). No Bear ETFS.

To qualify for a pick you must:

Have a RATING of more than 99 on the day of pick

   -OR-

Be a "yes"man with a RATING of 98 or higher on the day of pick

    -OR-

Have at one time been a Top Fool

    -AND-

1. Have been a caps player for more than 6 months.
2. All picks MUST have a pitch, and a time frame.

    -OR-

Be in the Top Ten at the time of pitch

To submit a pick Players should attach their pitch to a blog from this portfolio, or indicate in this blog that they have one on their own page. I will then copy that to the stockpicks list on the quickstats page, so that it will be visible on both the stock page and the quickstats page. I will of course place your name, and score at time of pick on the pitch.

You can name your stock here, for dibs (will hold for 7 days), but i will not post the stock until you have made your pitch also.

I am willing to share the password with a few someones, if they would like, to facilitate timing.

**************************

20+ fools have already made a pitch, effectively 'cost averaging' and buying in even though it's 'not the best time'. I am grateful to those who jumped in right away, because though they may lose a little in the beginning, the project might have stalled without some starters. Several other fools have mentioned interest, but are waiting and trying to time the market.

We are already racking up a few charms, like the Favorite charm, and the coveted Most Helpful Pitcher charm.

Also, we have received 61 Groupies, and 80 recs in less than a week. Not bad?

There has already been some interest shown in making an 'Investment Vehicle' to work with this portfolio. We have opened a google group to discuss the possibility. To keep static to a minimum we have created it as a private group discussion. To be invited to the discussion, please send your screen name to allstarportfolio@gmail.com and ask for an invitation. Thanks.

One idea i like is to start a private corporation, and use a model like foliofn, wherein we would create the portfolio with equal wieghts, and folks would be able to invest any amount they want, receiving partial shares.

Is there consensus as of yet about what to do with GoodVibe's FAZ pick?

I think that he should be allowed to hold it as long as he sees fit, since it was selected before the restrictions were in place -- but obviously, we need consensus for these things.

Eggplant. There is no consensus, but the general agreement is to let it sit for a little while and hope that he knows what he's doing.

FreundInvesting. I hope you get this note. That was a pitch, but no time frame? I'm tempted to post the pick, but i really like the player stating a time frame.

Hello Financial Modeler. Love your stuff, by the way.

If you read the guidelines for picks, it says somewhere that you must have x score on the day of pick. If you have a good day, or a good hour. then you can post your pick and it's a go!.

I'm sure you will be on the list any time now. Get your pick and post ready!

And Chris, somehow i read his SuperPicks first post and started my response before he wrote his second post, so by the time mine got posted the question was moot.

If it weren't for FAZ, this portfolio would be rocking. I assume I don't have to actually leave JAG on here for 5 years, right? I'm thinking about closing it on my GMX profile as I'm +40 points on it and more upside is likely limited for the next few months.

No, you can close it at any time, per the current rules, as long as you had initially intended to hold it for at least six months, or thought that it would make a reasonable holding for at least six months.

I would imagine that these rules might be subject to revision in the future -- the core concept here is to pick companies that will outperform in the long run, and discourage "market timing". IF you think that JAG doesn't represent the same value that it did a few weeks ago, for example -- I think that's a great reason to close it. IF you think that there is now a stock that is likely to outperform it because it ran up relatively fast and want to swap picks -- that's another great reason to close it and open something else -- but if you were meaning to close it and re-open it when it hits five again or something even though you think it's the best option out there still-- while permissible, I think it goes against the general spirit of the portfoio, and it would be better to just ride it down and up again.

Solaris is the authority here  - but that's my general understanding of what the attempted acheivement is here.

Okay, that makes sense. As I see it, JAG is a great value at 5, a very good value at 6.40 (where it started in this profile) but is merely an above average value here at 7.80. I'd rather pick something else that is an outstanding value than watch JAG sputter along between 6.50 and 8.50 for the next couple of months while we wait for more good earnings news. I wouldn't be reopening JAG at say 7, but if it goes down into the 5's again, I assume I'd be free to repick it. That isn't merely market timing in my opinion--that is in fact a fundamental change of value. That said, I'm not closing this pick just yet--the action the past couple of days has been extremely positive.

pacificwestcargo, good to hear from you. I am not allowed to play, but i encourage anybody to post such considerations on this blogboard.

FinancialModeler , I am pretty sure that by now you have read the guidelines slower and see that it says one pick per person. I was thinking that if after a year we still don't have 200 picks we could go to 2 per person, but my guess is we will.

goldminingXpert , You can write rules. As the current Top Fool of this game you get to school us as to what is "safe, easy, sleep at night, money".
Just jokin', but not really. The current guides, as i understand them, is, really, do we play caps to make money? and what are the best long term methods to get money? and isn't caps about groupthink?

So really, i don't care how much money you make me, as long as it's really safe. If you understand enough (100,00)to do it for real, trade when you need to. See if you got two pick you could give us a forever pick (5 year) and make some money on the side.

Since i'm dumb, i would prefer 5 year picks, but since i'm smart, i know that THIS SYSTEM WILL WORK, if we let it. Somewhere in this jargon is a winning system.

Your peers are watching. You are gmx. Do what you want with your pick, sir.

And about that FAZ pick. Why don't you big boys take him to the side, and keep me out of it? No, really. I assume that GV knows what he's doin'? He is 16 behind and gained 6 today. There is still time for him to do whatever he's doin'.  After this, the catchprase is "no risk, big money" and let the Players hear that how they want to?

LOL Somehow I don't think GMX is going to do that. We are both in FAZ too.
