I know that everyone wants to make some good money and during my recent search I have found a few goodies. One of which even pays a dividend, Magyar Telekom Plc, ( MTA ). This Hungarian Telco is partialy owned by Deutsche Telekom(DT) to which it sells its mobile phone products. Magyar Telekom is paying a decent dividend in the amount of Div/yield 1.04/8.06 per share. "Magyar Telekom Plc. is a supplier of telecommunications services. It provides of fixed line telecommunications services in Hungary, with approximately 2.3 million fixed access lines as of December 31, 2008. It is a mobile telecommunications services provider, with nearly 5.4 million mobile subscribers (including users of prepaid cards) as of December 31, 2008, in Hungary." This company has had a recent upgrade to accumulate by several analysts. The 52 week range has been from 10.01 - 24.99 USD. With eastern Europe in play I think this is one of your best bets in that market right now. The reason being is that the ADR is easily accessible on the NYSE and the attactive dividend.
Another way you could play the emerging markets as far south as Brazil would be to take a look at Brazilian Telecom HOLDRS ( TBH). Although it also pay a dividend of Div/yield 0.08/23.40, it is not without much risk at this point. The last report was that profits were down 24% in the fourth quarter. Although I like this one over the long hall. I would not do much with it over the short term. I would say accumulate at these levels but don't expect much of a pop. Thsi company though does look like a good takeover target for someone like Sprint (S), AT&T (T) or some of the likes if they were interested into some longterm growth. With this companies shares near the 52 week low (4.85 - 17.98. I'd say its worth a look. But the risk or what you will do is not up to me. I will add that the divdidend is just not enough to want to keep me interested for much more than a 2 year period unless this thing grows a pair and pops.
Last but not least, The solar play from China. Solarfun Power Holdings Co., Ltd (SOLF), Solarfun Power Holdings Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer of silicon ingots, photovoltaic (PV) cells and PV modules in China. The Company manufactures a variety of silicon ingots, PV cells and PV modules. With the expansion and flavor for solar power in China I would be willing to bet this puppy have more than just a bark, It has bite! Now I know you think China has slowed and its the end of the world for them. But you just hold on a second! But think about it for a second. The US grid has failed us at least two times that I can recall in the last 15 years and with the need for a problem fix. This companies along with First Solar (FSLR)will benefit longterm. I know the price and valuation of First Solar is too high. But if you look to the far east you will find the hidden gem of Solarfun Power and SOLF has legs and knows how to run! Especially since they have been turning a decent profit.
(Q3 09) (2008)
Net profit margin 13.88% -5.37% Operating margin 15.71% -5.24%
With earnings about to come out soon I'd say this is worth a long hard look. It is not only a great solar green energy play, but a nice technology play as well. But you decide. I say this one has a STRONG BUY rating from me. But remember its your money and not mine before you invest and I am not liable for what you do. So take that into account before you invest.
