May Close CAPS Accounts

February 06, 2013 – Comments (7) | RELATED TICKERS: ABT , ABBV

I am considering closing out my CAPS accounts.  It is simply unacceptable that for a month fool.com has been unable to fix the glitch that took away CAPS points for anybody who had an ABT pick open on the split date.  How many other spinoffs have been scwered up?  What is the point?  All of my picks in this account are my real life stocks, with comments indicating when I added or sold shares.  The reality is that until the ABT split, that pick had strongly outperformed the S&P.  you can also see this if you go to a site like ychats with a decent charting tool and compare my ABT pick to the S&P from the date in 2010 when I originally picked it.

RAH is also still wrong. My start price was $62.26. Per google, the day range was between $61.61-$62.91 so the spinoff was never accounted for.

I'm presuming that someone has to go in manually to adjust those.

Porte, they fixed the chart, but they did not fix the actual CAPS points issue.  I assumed they were related, but apparently not.  I sent a bug-report about it three weeks ago and have blogged about it twice before this.  At this point I'm not sure it is ever going to be fixed, and if so, that is the problem.  I'm not "playing CAPS" in this account, but even based on start dates it outperforms the S&P, and if you look at my subsequent purchases my outperformance is even more clear, with real money.  And it stinks to be down 30 or so CAPS points that I shouldn't be down.  It is dispiriting.

On another note, CAPS seems to simply delist halted stocks. My downthumb on DGW was closed out when it was halted in spite of the fact that it started trading again at a much lower price almost a year later.

I dunno TDM personally I don't care about "scores" I care about content.  While you have a legimate technical complaint I respond to what is being said.

Whenever I had a problem with CAPS, I contacted support and tried to be respectful and courteous.  I just verified the form is still there, so you should be able to find it to get your quotes fixed.

Online commuties are fragile things.  The hosts have to put in some effort, but if the community doesn't reciprocate then it doesn't work, either.  I think that TMF does a good enough job for a free service.

awallejr and ajm101 fair points, I'm maybe being prickly.  But I did contact CAPS support and was respectful and courteous while doing so.  Haven't heard anything.
