Bloomberg breaks the story here:

McCain More Likely to Drop Palin, Bookmakers Say (Update1)

Sept. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The smart money thinks there's a better chance today than yesterday that John McCain will dump Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate.

The Big Picture post Intrade story:

Intrade Opens VP Palin Withdrawal Contract

Posted by Barry Ritholtz on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 | 04:17 PM

As I told my loyal groupies and the Fool community on 31 Aug 08:

WHY IS McCAIN RUINING THIS LADY’S LIFE? Palin Mother of FOUR will NOT be VP.

I hope some Fools got in when the odds were paying 20 to 1. No doubt it is a matter of time, Palin will drop out. Do you think the DNC and Biden will not capitalize on Palin’s support for an Independent Alaska?

Comments on Youtube:Former member of AIP, Sarah Palin, addresses Alaskan Independent Party convention. There are two other clips here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHFY1o...
and here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHFY1o...
in which Dexter Clark, vice chairman of the AIP, gives a speech where he refers to Sarah Palin as a former member of the AIP and still sympathetic to their agenda. Very important to watch these clips also to get the full context.

Since discovering this story on August 31st, it has been picked up by the mainstream media to some extent. I found these clips on youtube on Aug 31st and put two and two together. Downloading and reupping them to my youtube account. Thanks to the original poster of the clips who apparently was unaware of the enormity of this story.

OK Fools, what would life in the US be like without the resource rich Alaska?

Russia just supported independent Ossetia and Abkhazia.  The EU just supported an independent Kosovo. Do you think they would support an independent Alaska? Can I get a HELL YEAH! Since the US debt is so large selling Alaska back to Russia could be considered.  Why not? The US is selling many of its assets. Budweiser, Rockefeller Center, Sears Tower, toll roads, hotels  etc…,  why not just sell Alaska?

rd89, RonChapman wouldn't it be better to just sell Alaska?

Just kidding, I know you Fools like the members of the Brown shirts, Khmer Rouge, Bolsheviks, members of Jones town, etc...YOU have NO IDEA the background of the "leaders" you are following. You are just are just "drinking the Kool aid" the media is selling. After all Palin has been in the spot light a record 5+ days and with that resume! 1984 Ms Congeniality! No wonder you are piling on with that support! WOW!

But given the choices of Biden, Obama, McCain or Palin, at this moment in time, the majority of Americans would choose Palin for President.

There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.”

Yay Palin!

Where can I place the bet that she is not going anywhere?

If Mccain backs out now on Palin will show a failure in Leadership. Please tell me where to place my bet that he keeps her all the way. I shorted that Guli"911"ani would not win the repubs nomination way back in jan and made a very nice profit.

You know many republicans who are fiscal conservatives also harbor libertarian principles at heart. One of those principles is the right of states to make thier own decisions about key issues such as taxation, abortion, gay marriage, labor disputes et. This debate over local vs federal power has been going on since the beginning (just watch the 7 part John Adams series).

Ask yourself what you'd rather have: a libertarian seperatist or a red commie. I'm more partial to the seperatist thanks.  At least if she sold alaska we'd make a few bucks. Obama would strangle our oil resources and give them to the Russians if it ment making gas so expensive we couldn't afford to drive and we'd have to ride bikes everywhere.

You better get serious here. Once Homeland Security find out some here in the fool community want to tear apart this nation by supporting an independent Alaska. Homeland Security will round us all up. WE WILL ALL BE IN GITMO, CUBA! BECAUSE OF RonChapmanJR, rd80! THANKS ALOT U 2!

RonChapmanJr,

Do I know Palin's background extensively?  Of course not,

No doubt.

She's McCain's only hope, if he drops her, he throws away any chance to win.

Ridiculous. A VP has a very limited role in Government (pre-Cheney). Most people are not going to ignore McCain, because they hope he dies and Palin can take over.

She is a Mother of Four, grandmother of one. How about reading the previous post and link one more time?

You can go on Intrade and sell some contracts. Good luck, let us know what you bet, so we can follow it.

Mccain backs out now on Palin will show a failure in Leadership.

No, Obama might confiscate resources and give them to his supporters.

There's no reason why it shouldn't be. It was not only a brilliant selection, but one that has a very reasonable chance of clinching an improbable electoral win for the Republicans.

Wow, I made a Fool blog headline.

So gamblers in Great Britain and Ireland now have the odds at 8:1 from 20:1.  Time will tell.  If I were a gambler, I'd gladly take 8:1 that she stays on the ticket.

I'll have to wait 'til later this evening to look at the youtube clips.  I have seen the stories linking Palin to the AIP.  I've also seen news reports that she's been a registered Republican since the early eighties.  I think it's another non-issue.

None of us know everything about any of the candidates.  From what I do know, I think McCain has made a good choice for VP.  I also think McCain/Palin is a much, much better choice than Obama/Biden.  You clearly disagree.

Have a great day.

I actually agree, Biden was a ridiculous choice also, but Biden is no amaturer and will likely destroy this poor women in the debates more then the media has, thus far.

And yes, McCain needs the Christian vote, which he does not get without Palin.  She is his best chance to get that vote and I think he knows he needs that.  That vote got Bush two terms, so it is an important group.

Are you putting any real money against her?

Peace,
