McCain's Brain Emits Toxic Gas...

April 15, 2008 – Comments (6)

It's pandering season, so the 'straight talker,' is trying to out-give his Democratic rivals. Earlier in the month, he decided to back housing a bailout plan, lest he be the only guy on the ticket not promising to free Americans from the consequences of their own abysmal decision-making.

His latest plan? A "gas tax holiday."

Yes, John. The best way to take care of a commodity that is rising in price because of huge demand is to make it cheaper thus... boosting demand.

Is anyone with a 9th-grader's understanding of economics running in this election, or must we pick from these three?

No, I don't think there is any one that made it to high school.  Pandering gets votes.

Don't want to upset anybody, but the bar for the current administration is not that high, nobody will notice the difference.

I think we must pick from these three, yes. But it's a better choice than in 2000. In addition, given the outgoing guy, any of the three can only make things better. We are making steady progress ...

Shhhhh, Seth.  I'm long oil companies, drillers, rig builders, oil services, etc...  Yes, eliminating tax on gas is the answer to the supply issue.  In fact, I don't think that it goes far enough.  We really need some sort of federally funded gas rebate plan.  I actually laughed out loud when I saw the article on CNNMoney.

the pollsters got to him. "Hey boss! Look, you need to promise people free crap if you expect to win!"

"What's Hillary promising, and that other guys, what's-his-name. The lawyer who likes penny stocks and shady land developers..."

"Yeah, him. What're they offering?"

"Dude, what aren't they offering. Free refi on bad mortgages, populist knee-jerk NAFTA bashing, tax credits for wildebeest farmers..."

"Man, how can I compete with that. Hey! You know what's expensive? Know what people like? Gasoline? Can we give them free gas? Just bomb Iran maybe and take theirs and distribute it here?

"Sorry sir, we're fresh out of bombs, and we don't have enough soldiers to mess with Iran. But you could take away the taxes..."

"But doesn't that tax money pay for roads, and aren't our roads falling apart in this country. Bridges in Minneapolis falling into rivers and such?"

"Sure, but no one really cares about that. They're driving 4-ton SUVs, so 2-foot potholes don't bother them."

"Then let's promise them we get rid of the gas tax!"

"You got it, boss. Should we abolish the income tax while we're at it?"

"Just for the oil companies."
