Most ridiculous budget-balancing calculator ever

When I read this post, I immediately said to myself: "surely they will present us with 2 options: a) Sell 10% of children born this year to a pork-processing plant to raise some cash, and b) Shut down the sewage system in LA to cut expences." So I looked at this budget calculator, and sure enough, it was exactly as I thought. No realistic taxing option ever found its way into this calculator, and no realistic expence-cutting option. So, Mr. Governator, please remove exaggerated histrionics from your calculators: I am not going to shed any tears while listening to the screams and lamentations of the richest people in the world.

Wow, California spends a $BILLION per year on incarcerating Illegals. See story link above.

Here's the first $BILLION. I've heard #'s up to 30% of California is "undocumented". To this $BILLION, ad the cost of public healthcare, the cost of overwhelming the school system, subsidized housing and utilities, food stamps, welfare, law enforcement, etc. I suppose wholesale deportation, suspension of greencards and "anchor baby" benefits, a secure border and enforcement of existing Immagration laws would be out of the question. Hell, California might have a balanced budget and not know it.

Agreed +100 rec. There "is no little bit of this little bit of that" option which is usually the compromise way to balance a budget in RL.

The calculator reflects California "reality".  Since the legislative & executive branches aren't dealing in real-world reality, the calutalor makes all the sense in the world.  I think it's a quote from the original Star Trek, "In an insane world, the sane man seems insane."

The illegal immigrant points made above are good ones.  The problem could be solved in a week, but we don't have the stomach any more to protect ourselves - to busy feeling good about ourselves.  And California is the epitome of such feeble mindedness.

I'm afraid alstry is more right than he is wrong.  "alstrynomics is all about being right, except when it's wrong."
