My brand new avatar.

May 26, 2010 – Comments (19) | RELATED TICKERS: BUD , BRK-B , V

Hello fellow Fools, I would like to introduce my new avatar.

Why did I pick this as my avatar? Lets go through the reasons-

1. Nothing beats- I found it ironic since my ranking on Caps is 3252, so I was quite pleased that the sentence was blurred.

2. A Cubs fan- Well I'm a Cubs fan, this would also explain my annoying habit of being optimistic in the most dire of situations ( I actually find it helpful in investing, I don't buy or sell based on the political climate of the moment )

3. Bud Man- This is my beer of choice. Since I invest in companys of products that I use this was a logical choice for making it one of my core holdings. Unfortunetly while I was getting the capital together rumours of a takeover sent the stock skyrocketing. I missed out but was able to start buying while Bud was still on the pink sheets (due to low volume, I believe I was majority shareholder at one point :) Buds future still looks bright.

4. Harry Cary- I grew up listening to him. He had the ability to make the game fun even when we were watching some really bad Cubs teams. Also he lived life to the fullest, Life is short so why spend it climbing a wall of worry.

Ok at this point your probably saying dude yeah your score is good, but your accuracy sucks.

True, let this be a lesson for all the new Caps players. When I first joined Caps I would completely freak out when I saw scores in the red. Later I learned of the importance letting the losers ride.

And if I may say something else to the new players, TMF is an awesome website, and CAPS is an awesome source of ideas for research. But always do your own research, in real life I spend weeks, months and in some cases years (BRK-B) researching my own investments. So please don't invest based on what I have to say about what I may have spent five minutes looking at and put it on Caps so I can see what happens. (I'll level with you I'm pretty much an idiot :)

That's cool. How are we able to pick the picture of our choice for our avatar? I thought the choices were limited.

OH KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I revealed my alter ego here on Caps.

This profile was set up to try and be an allstar in a year, make up for my accuracy failings.

With the rule changes it looks like I might have to change my strategy .

( Hats off to port, I can't keep track of two profiles :)

Correction- my goal with the secondary account is to become one of the top Fools within the year. with the msftgev account I will just keep working at improving my accuracy . In the future I'll do my best to refrain from posting as sholess. (it's just a pain logging in and out of accounts :)

Haha... I figured your name had something to do with stock tickers... I always think of you as "Mischief"... That's how I always say it in my head when I read your name anyway.

Haha... yeah, my name is needlessly long and confusing. It's a nickname from when I worked at a recording studio on 35th Street. I was recording some hilarious gangsta rap for these three huge black dudes. First it started as "Shaggy" (a scooby-doo reference since I'm skinny with long hair)...

By the end of the (two-week) session it had turned into "DJ Shagggy D".

Said one fine gangsta:

"Wit three gee's 'cause he werf de extra grand!"

Haha... it's just so ridiculous that I decided I had to keep it. And start using it as my nickname for CAPS (and fantasy baseball).

Anyway... that's my rant for the afternoon! Time to go play some frisbee.

Check out GLDD.

I like it because we can go with the Benjamin Graham strategy of checking the company out before purchase.

Thanks msftgev,

Awesome lightning this morning! It sounded like the city was exploding.

I didn't even think about being able to check out GLDD in person. That'd be really cool. I always prefer to own companies I can see in person... but obviously it doesn't work out that way a lot of the time.

My girlfriend inherited a bunch of AEE (which is based in MO, but does a lot of business out of Naperville I think). I'm tryin to help her come up with a solid exit plan on it... because they appear to be a pretty shoddy company. Plus she needs to get some diversification goin instead of having everything invested in just one stock.

Have you checked out GLDD in person? Maybe I'll have to take my GF out for a night of dredge-watching. Haha...

Go Hawks!!

I wonder if they may be used in the Gulf to build up those sand barriers they've been talking about to help stop the oil from reaching sensitive areas of the shore.

Wow! Not since 1961
