My Lightbulb Stock Just Glowed Brighter

January 27, 2012 – Comments (9) | RELATED TICKERS: LOW

I was delighted to read the news posted on Schwab 1/25/12 that Vu1 Corporation's R30 bulbs which were offered on Lowes.com sold out in just two hours! Wow! I own some of VU1's stock (VUOCD) as a protest against the unhealthy mercury based CFL bulbs. Now Lowe's plans to offer the energy efficient, non-mercury bulbs in over 1,000 of their stores.

To read more about this potential "rulebreaker"  (apologies to MF for adopting their term for a sassy stock which surprises.) check out their website. http://www.vu1corporation.com/

In the interest of fool disclosure. I'm not employed by Motley Fool. I currently have 180 shares of VUOCD which is a modest position for a penny stock which is hovering just below $5 at the moment. If all goes well, I think this company will go over the counter and through the woods to Nasdaq.

Let it shine!

I share your dislike for CFLs. Putting a zillion things full of mercury in the environment just seems like a bad idea to me.

Yes, a green technology should be better for your health not worse! Having a lightbulb break shouldn't be a signal to follow hazmat procedures.

Glad to see you "blogging" lemoneater.

Thanks for pointing out this company.

Haven't yet figured out how to "play" it, but it looks promising.

May have to wait until it hits the NASDAQ, since my low cost broker seems to come late to the game on some of these "great idea stocks".

Hope you have a great weekend.

I just bought a Feit LED accent light at Walmart. I hope it works better than the two I got from Lights Of America that failed pretty quickly.

Hi Lemon

I wish there was a Lowes nearby to me, I live 2 minutes away from a HD. If I see them on the shelves I'll pick some up

Spent an hour researching the stock, obviously they're not profitable right now. The lowes order won't bring enough revenue to change that...but doing a web crawl there is demand for the product.

So yes it could catch on and be a multibagger. But more financeing is needed to supply the demand. Hopefully shares are not dilluted.

I hope this dose'nt seem like I'm bashing this stock, I'm not, and it's on my watchlist.

Just my honest observations, but I've been wrong before and lord knows I'll be wrong again.

Cheers.

@ #6 Thanks, Motley, this was one runup, I really enjoyed.

@ #7 This Christmas we gave out some tiny LED flashlights that work great for camping when you need to take a walk without disturbing the other sleeping campers. My husband also installed LED lights for reading in our little teardrop camper.

chk999, Hope the FEIT light lasts well and doesn't give the lie to energy efficiency.

@ #8 Harry, I had a great weekend. Saturday the weather was nice enough here to spend a short time outdoors at Poinsett Bridge. (I think it is one of the oldest bridges in South Carolina. With its lovely stone arch it looks like it belongs in Scotland.)

Evaluating is different from bashing. I appreciate your informed opinion. Stocks are like coins. They are two-sided with pros and cons. I never invest in a stock with no cons because I assume it's too good to be true:)

Right now, VUOCD is not a value story, but I hope they are a growth story in the making. At this point only Lowe's offers them, but perhaps HD will also in the near future.

Every now and then I find a stock that is both growth and value in one. Xilinx (XLNX) has been that way for me. It offers a 2% dividend now but since has appreciated its share price almost 40% from when I got it my dividend rate is even better than the current one.
