My petition to reduce the number of fear mongering posts by ALSTRY

February 28, 2011 – Comments (46) | RELATED TICKERS: F , EAR.DL2

Is it me or am I the only one who seems to be bothered by  vast volume of bogus non investing blogs by Alstry ?

So I'm asking the fellow opinions of other members about the vast daily numbers of posts by Alstry:

I'm hoping that maybe if people were to stop recommending on them that maybe just maybe Alstry might limit to three or less the number of the world is coming to an end blogs ~ or the number of riot and mass unrest blogs ~ or whatever other non investment related thousands of blogs he likes to post here.

Thank you.

It's partly my fault he's gone.  I wish it wasn't.  But one night in Jan of 2010 he fired off like 3 "All Glories" in a row, and I was irritated and posted a now-infamous blog I really, really wish I hadn't, complaining about blogs that people had actually put some work into and were worth reading being pushed off the main blog page.

Later, looking at his picks, his rating, his score....He said plenty without saying anything.  I would be glad to have him back, as long as he doesn't fire off 3 in a row.

I've going back and forth on this one. I think he's a strange guy, but a good guy. But I do think the sheer volume of his posts makes it difficult for newer bloggers to get recognized around here. We have a lot of guys who blog, then disappear. I'd like to see more recognition of some of the lesser known bloggers.

Perhaps a way to counter this is to open up the displayed "top blogger" list to more than just the top 10. Maybe we can fit a top 25 on there or something, just so visitors see that there is a lot of great flavor among the CAPS bloggers.

The point being that alstry doesn't have an impact on the established bloggers. We have regular readers. I'd just like to see more of our good bloggers get a bigger following.

Lynn Alstry is irrelevant, he hasn't helped anyone over the past 2 years since at least i've been gone and from what I remember when I was here, he wasn't any better.

He only changes his themes. now its all the sudden the digital age ? really ?  its been the digital age for quite some time now, I could write an entire encyclopedia about how he has been more a dis-service than any help, because not once has he told anyone anything relevant or smart.

He simply makes foolish claims and posts the worst in the news to somehow further his agenda of being a lifetime bear regardless of any facts or changes.

He doesn't even play the stock picking part of the game, because if he did his score would more than likely be in the bottom of the pack like it was for years until he closed out his picks which inflated his position.  But at some point it should revert back to zero from which when everything turns down he can come back and say see I told you so, after the 10 year bull run look I was right stocks are bad now ten years later... rolling his eyes... and smirking.

Let me throw in another 2 cents.  Regarding checklist34's post (#36) above, I find it interesting that Alstry used to be more popular and I remember that time.  There was another user that everyone was proclaiming as god's gift to investing.  His name was "SpecBear" and he was certainly successful at timing bearish picks and short ETFs.  For a while.

Back to Alstry.  Now everybody hates his guts and can't stand him, and most are proclaiming we are in a bull market, have a lot more room to run, hakuna matata, etc.

I think *sentiment towards* Alstry is a good contrarian indicator.  It might be a good time to start getting bearish since everyone hates him so much.  And the longs like checklist34 are all very loved.  I think the fool knows this, which is why they still post all his stuff, crazy though much of it may be.

One more thing-- be careful folks buying these silver stocks you know nothing about, just because they've gone up.  That makes them even more risky in my mind.  If Buffett can lose money betting on silver, I think you can.  Short term, I'm expecting a decent pullback in the price of silver mining companies mainly because so many on here are diving into them.  Be fearful when others are greedy.  Long term, though, I agree that silver/gold will due well due to the IDIOTS out here in Washington DC.  I'm actually looking for another pullback in silver myself (missed the last one).

Of course, I don't garner any respect on here because of my rating, my refusal to get a new profile, and my refusal copy others picks.  Just my 2 cents worth.
