But two reasons are simple :
1. Shorts don't like to pay the 3 day margin fee's to banks.
2. For some reason governments love to come out with market saving news after long weekends.
These who have margin ( which is required for shorting) normally hold long positions also on margin. So I see no difference.
The second point is valid.
