No license or passport? That will be an extra 25%.
Warning: This idea will make you angry! Either that or you'll agree with me.
I think I have a way to raise state and federal revenue. It is an idea that I don’t like, but can live with. My concept is that at the point of purchase at a retail counter the purchaser must furnish a state issued ID or USA passport. If you do not have one you are forced to pay a “non-resident purchasing tax” of, say, 25%. The state and federal governments can fight about the details of how to make it work. That would generate a TON of revenue from those that are here illegally and/or make a living in a manner that goes around the IRS. The exception to this would be if you are a visitor to our beautiful land and can provide a passport, visa, or green card type thingy when asked. Then maybe they should have to pony up some additional tax revenue above sales tax? I don’t know. I have not reached a verdict about that one yet.
So, which is it? You like it? You hate it?
