Look what CNBC is playing here:

Meet Your Neighbor, The Survivalist

There's a new breed of Americans stocking up on canned goods and ammunition. It's not the guy hiding out in a backwoods shack. It's your neighbor.

Jim Wiseman is a fire protection contractor who works "with my hands and the sweat of my brow," and a 54-year-old father of five. He lives about as far away as you can get from Washington, DC, and Wall Street...La Jolla, California.

La Jolla hardly seems the sort of place where you'd find a man stocking his garage for disaster, but Wiseman's not alone.

More Americans who are concerned about the teetering financial system dependent on government handouts are preparing for a potential doomsday scenario. They've been dubbed "Suburban Survivalists," and they're one reason the stocks of companies like Cabela's have more than doubled since the start of the year.

"I got involved in this six months ago when I became concerned about the financial meltdown," says Wiseman, standing in a garage piled high with enough canned goods to feed ten people for a year. He was concerned that the government's response to the banking crisis wasn't to let the free markets work, but to hand out money. "If this was our response from the government to fix the problem, then I can't depend on them to provide for me and my family."

That first clip would've been more interesting if there was some context as to why that guy was being arrested, and if that guy wasn't largely acting like a nutjob.

Since the cops didn't give a reason for arresting the guy, I am glad that he managed to escape.

Some comments from another blog witht the same video:

It is illegal to arrest someone and not tell them the crime they committed

Wow. Call the guy crazy all you want, but listen carefully to him and you realize not only does he make a valid legal point, he's non-violent, he composes an improvised song while being pinned down by two cops and then *runs away* while being **tazed** and actually takes the time to tell them he considers it self-defense. Dude seemed pretty with it to me.

What I want to know is why he was being pinned to the ground by two cops in the first place. And did he get caught?

lol "I'm defending myself in favor of that"... that's a classic 5150

There were 2 of them, they were both pretty nuts. Wearing their silly little costumes and using violence on people as if it was normal. Crazy.

Did you notice how those donut eaters couldn't even chase him down? They did not even make an attempt. It seems YYYYAAAAAHHHHWWWWWEEEEEHHHHHH answered his prayers and got him away from the evil doers.

on 06/03/2009 Um.... It said pretty clearly in the video that there was a warrant out for his arrest. They told him that. There's no reason to believe the cops on the scene would know exactly what the charge is, especially if it came from another state or something.

They can't arrest you without reason, and what you learned it your HS class was probably the usual "you can only be held for so long (48 hrs?) without being charged with a crime. But having warrant out is all the ***** reason you need.

"* tell you why you are being arrested"

...which they did, right?

Ignorant Cops, looking particularly ignorant in this instance.  It's too bad more people don't stand up for their rights, and even worse that so many legopeople root for the the bad guys.

The rules state they must arrest those with warrants. The cops are stupid for taking such a job, where they can not use their better judgement, and never realize they are lower class people fighting against other lower class people in a class war to benefit the upper class. The police only effectively serve to further the separation between the rich and the poor.
