Oh Well Viacell

So over the weekend I listened to just a couple of presentations from UBS Global Life Sciences conference.  I blogged about West already but the other one I listened in on was Viacell.  Viacell is a stem cell based company, but part of their business (the part that brings in $$) is collecting and banking cord blood.

Since I had another baby not too long back (just starting to crawl - but not yet quickly), we yet again considered this option, but declined.  Still, I wondered a few times how this business does.  Well, I listened and I looked at the financials while I listened (good old multitasking) and considered adding it to CAPS.

I didn't.  It is still not profitable and expenses are growing every bit as fast as revenues. But Really.  Really Really Really.  I thought they might be an attractive takeover candidate as sales growth was pretty decent.

Well, Monday Perkin Elmer (PKI) made them an offer that I doubt they'll refuse and the stock shot up at open today (up > 50%).  Would have been a nice short CAPS play.

Coulda, Shoulda, but honestly not the Woulda.

Oh Well.

I really need to listen to a few more of these calls.
