I'm looking for a few more people to test out my new website. I realize that my last post might have made this sound too much like work so I'm trying again.

What I have is a social networking website much like Facebook, but once a user signs on there is a variety of blogs that they can access. I was originally going to make it just like Facebook as far as collecting enough info from members to be able to connect them with friends and family on the site but the difference was going to be that I wasn't going to leverage your friends with that info and I was going to keep that info private after you connected.

After talking with the initial test bloggers, I scrapped that idea. They didn't really seemed to have the need to connect with friends and family.  So even though they were happy to give me the intial info that I asked for, I did not use it on the site. The site is hard wired to at least get a full name, but I didn't even use that info and made up names for the test bloggers.

What I found out was that people connected anyway. Even with my small group of test bloggers. So I got the social networking part right, I just thought incorrectly that people would want to know the people they were networking with.

The truth is that they really didn't care and content was enough to connect them. Even with the limited amount of content with the few bloggers that I have right now.

So what I'm looking for is a few more people that will go on my site, blog if they want, read the blogs that are there, play a couple of the 1000 plus games, report the bugs and errors that they see, and give me a wish list of what they would like to see.

I am really excited with the framework of the site and have more ideas than I have enough years to implement.

Even if you are not interested in playing around on the site, please rec this so enough people that might will see it.

One thing I'd really like to try before I go live though. I have installed software called courseware that creates a virtual university inside of a social networking framework. If anyone is a teacher, I could really use someone to play with this and give an opinion of how useful it may be. I have a ton of ideas that fit into my personal philosophy of cooperative independence and freedom of information and I would really like to get this software to do the things that I think that it can.

Thanks to all,

Chris

Oh I should put my email down again.

email me if you are interested

If you want to blog, tell me what you want to blog about and what you want the blog to be called.

I need users more than bloggers at this point though, so don't feel compelled to blog if it's not your thing

Chris,

I don't think that is true.

Look at your test pool, mainly from TMF that have been blogging here for yrs (the knowing part is somewhat factorted in).

Cheers,

John.

That may be true HarryCary.

But I felt the whole friends and family thing was crucial before and now I'm not so sure.

We'll all know soon enough.

Well, I think that is crucial, and I think your on the right page by having people freind each other, creating there own network of freinds and family.

Then it's about individual choice of who you invite, and what info you as an individual wish to put out there.

Now if someone invites cousin Cletus, they will be shunned :)

I think others being able to see that info is what would turn most people off.

Maybe I'll poll everyone before launch and see what everyone thinks.

I've also thought about 2 profiles for everyone, A personal and a private, but I'm not sure I'd be able to make that work.

Sorry I haven't been very diligent about getting started. I've been focused on finding more immediate ways of making money, as I am incomeless at the moment. Nag me and I should get started on that when I'm more settled.

@ #4 I have to agree with HarryCary or rather his ghost, whom I know as a charming guy in the Chicago area who makes signs for a living. MF has introduced me to most of the other bloggers to some extent. Besides, it is a truism that any author cannot help writing about himself.

One reason why I wanted to write for your blog, Chris, is that you were kind and encouraged me when I was worried about how the Icelandic volcano might upset my sister-in-law's wedding. Many others here also gave sympathy. What more could a friend do?

I will be praying that you get some lucrative work soon, Flea. What are you hoping for?

Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to post want kind of work you are looking for. You never know if someone here might be looking for an employee.

Once I do open the site up to the public, it would be worth it just to read her blogs.

Lemons can blush. Thanks for your kind words:) To modify Hilary Clinton's quote "it takes a village... [to make a good blog site.]" I like seeing what others have written and are writing.

There is even a sci/fi fantasy writer, but not me. I'm better at critiquing fiction than writing it. Then there is fantasy baseball. Anything to do with Joe Dimaggio? Also there is practical advice on fatherhood, etc.
