Original here.

Bit 'o honey:

It's anecdotal evidence, for sure -- but sometimes, it's a leading indicator. Citigroup (NYSE: C) is reportedly considering a pile of layoffs. Circuit City (NYSE: CC), same deal. Mass firings -- let's call them what they are, yes? -- are up. The prime pain areas are temporary help services, construction, and manufacturing, but what happens when those people slow their spending?...

Seth, what's the internet equivalent of the secret communist handshake?  I offer it to you...

It's called:  Pushing on a String.

My favourite example that "the gig is up":  It seems like half the commercials I hear on most cable TV channels and just about all radio now--esp. the non-radio type of radio aka, satellite--are for modern day versions of snake oil.  All scam products designed with one sole purpose, to coax dollars from the ignorant consumers' pockets.  Many sheltered by the Food Supplement Act from the 1980's...

Look for inflation hedges folks because here it comes...

Thanks Seth,

Greshm

Pfft. So you're saying you can't push a string? Didn't you hear Helicopter Ben yesterday? Everything's fine. Nothing to worry about. The Fed's been pushing strings for months now, and look what a great job it's done reeling in inflation.

How did the Fools ever let you into their Foolish 'Club' here anyways?!  Maybe it was some old-fashioned Affirmative Action program?  You're the token "doom-'n-gloomer/nay-sayer/pessimist"?  Or you are doing Court-Ordered Community Service?  :)

I, for one, am just SO glad to find at least ONE guy with your perspective here.  Most days there is still that 'voice-in-the-wilderness' feeling to looking at things from my seemingly twisted vantage point so, when I'm feeling that kinda "loneliness", I just come-over here and read what the resident radical Marxist has to say and I can make it through the rest of the day...

If you haven't, make sure you go over and read the quote about derivatives from the WSJ in my blog post:
