One in Four Children on Food Stamps, One in Eight Overall; Weekly Unemployment Claims Tick Up

Every month the number on food stamps increases. Food stamp usage is now up to a record 36 million. Please consider Food Stamp Use Soars, and Stigma Fades

With food stamp use at record highs and climbing every month, a program once scorned as a failed welfare scheme now helps feed one in eight Americans and one in four children.

A recent study by Mark R. Rank, a professor at Washington University in St. Louis, startled some policy makers in finding that half of Americans receive food stamps, at least briefly, by the time they turn 20. Among black children, the figure was 90 percent.

What a sad testimony of our society where the man of the house is either not willing or not able to provide food for his family. I hesitate to think about the determential long term effects of this give away policy on the backbone of a free society and families. I fully encourage my adult children not to think they can depend on Uncle Sam to make up for their budget/career choices! Unless of course for temporary or emergancy. Get educated, get a better job, get a raise, get off your a##.
