Peter Schiff: Rush to Judgment

March 06, 2009 – Comments (5)

Talk show host and conservative icon Rush Limbaugh recently ignited a firestorm of criticism for expressing his desire that Barack Obama should fail. Democrats, and even some Republicans, suggested that he had put aside his patriotism to wish for an economic collapse that would result in political advantage for conservatives. However, if you believe as I, and apparently Rush, that Obama’s plans will prevent recovery, then wishing that they fail to become actual policy is the right thing to do. The problem is that since Mr. Limbaugh has a history of partisanship, and since he did not forcefully criticize the Bush Administration for similar (if slightly more modest) plans, many cannot see past the messenger to recognize the truth in the message.

I prefer Ron Paul's take on this circus:

"I don't even think of Rush Limbaugh."

Reminiscent of Howard Roark's reply to Ellsworth Toohey.

I'm not a big supporter of Rush L.; sometimes he has useful stuff, sometimes he doesn't.  Rush gave a little more context to his "I want him to fail" comment recently and it seemed to fit.

He said "This notion that I want the president to fail, this shows you the problem we've got. This is nothing more than common sense and to not be able to say it? Why in the world would I want what we just described: rampant government growth, wealth that is not being created yet is being spent? What is in this, what is possibly in this that any of us want to succeed? Did the Democrats want the war of Iraq to fail? They certainly did. And they not only wanted the war in Iraq to fail they proclaimed it a failure.... They hoped George Bush failed. So what is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?"

I'm in agreement with Rush on that point.  I don't want to see economic collapse as a result of the failure of BOs plans and policies and I don't want him to screw up the core of the country either.
